Install AGP Drivers for HD 3850, 3650, 2400 PRO

Thanks John.

Everything went fine until step 10 of your install procedure.
After the reboot windows will not start.
All I get is the screen saying "starting windows "
Have to restore to get things going again. (restores to generic vga ).

Do you have any more suggestions?

Thanks

Who's John? heh

Install this. Do it by using the device manager, especially for the CPU to AGP bridge in system devices.

Then after successful, install video driver from this thread.

Also, you can try installing it in Vista compatibility mode by running the setup.exe

Making progress.
Via cpu-agp driver installed and works ok.
After installing ati driver windows progresses from "starting windows" screen to blue screen before restarting again. Looked like atikmdag.sys was the file it reported.

Thanks for info

Thanks for the info. This is my HTPC for recording tv. I did get it working finally last night with a Catalyst 9.1 driver. Looks good so far, we will see over the next couple days. If it still doesn't work very well, I'm upgrading my main pc and will have a Gigabyte intel mb to swap out. Just need another Pci express video card.
Thanks for your time.

Tom

Hi, welcome.

It is already included:

"ATI Radeon HD 3650 AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596

Do you have an nForce3 motherboard? Or which one do you have?

sorry, my bad, I've only now realized I was supposed to use the "have disk" procedure, I was selecting browse directory or some other menu.
still, I just ged bad artifacts and BSOD just like with the Vista drivers
so I'm still stuck on Catalyst 9.2 as only WDDM 1.0 drivers work so far on my Win 7.
I have a nforce2 MB
I so hope I'm gonna find a solution to use Cat 9.11, I've had no luck with WDDM 1.1 so far. :(

My Win 7 ( upgraded from Vista) works quite fine with Catalyst 9.2 just that I can't install any newer driver.
I also have XP installed and Cat 9.11 works fine in it, DXVA in Flash 10.1 and all...

thing is the early Vista drivers such as the one bundled on my card's install CD also worked terribly in Vista on my PC unlike Catalyst 9.2 which works fine even in 7.
Is there any reason why it would not be possible to have a working Windows 7 graphics driver on my PC?

Yeah, NVIDIA dropped support of nForce3 and lower before Vista ever came out.

so then howcome Vista and 7 do work with some Vista drivers on my PC?
it is true that I could not install the nforce drivers in 7, it crashed my PC and I had to go in System Restore but some MB drivers did install and Win 7 also installed drivers for the MB - i believe thru Win Update and I can't complain about anything directly MB related, everything's fine in Device Manager.

First of all, my respects to torrentg; YOU ARE A HERO!
Subsequently, my disrespects to ATI for causing so such trouble to all of us.
Finally... my problem!!

Torrentg, I followed your step-by-step instructions in your initial post on this thread. My Sapphire AGP HD3650 was properly identified and installed. However, after the reboot I get an exclamation mark on the "ATI Radeon HD3650 AGP" entry in the Device Manager. Bringing up the Properties windows I get the message "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" and essentially the ATI driver isn't loaded (seems that the Standard VGA takes its place).

Also, I have to note this:

My motherboard is GA-8SG800 (very old) and I always had to install the SiS AGP Driver for the AGP bus to function properly, when I used Windows XP. Otherwise I had extremely decreased performance. In Windows 7 I haven't been able to find the appropriate driver, maybe my problem is connected to the lack of this driver?

Hi, Konstheo.

Hero, I dunno about that. I just like pcs a lot, know some things and enjoy helping others get systems working optimally. Thank you for the gesture, though. :D

You could try installing this.

Download and extract it. Then, go to the the device manager in system devices. Fing the CPU to AGP controller bridge. Right click on it. Update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Then double click on the extracted .inf.
Hit ok, then next and let it install.

When you reboot after that, go into the system bios. Disable everything not used like parallel port, serial port, floppy etc...

Then install the driver from this thread.

Good luck.

I've just downloaded Everest and it reports
"AGP is disabled. This may cause performance penalty."

I'll download from the link above and be back in a while for feedback.

It didn't work. I even downloaded v1.21 agp drivers from www.sis.com but it crashed both times during startup. I had to safe-mode into windows, uninstall the agp drivers and reboot back to normal.

If anyone has any suggestions, please help me. I'll do some research over the net for one more time. If I find anything useful I'll return to post.

Thank you

EDIT: It seems I've been pretty careless. Windows Update offered a driver for the SiS AGP (I failed to mention before that my motherboard features a Sis 648 chipset) as an Optional Update. So problem is fixed. Again thanks torrentg for your step by step instructions!

Got my Sapphire 3650 AGP 512 running on Win 7

Many thanks to those in this forum... without these messages and forum I would have just given up. I note note that underscan/overscan on my secondary display has a tweak in the CCC that works!

I was a bit surprised that a gfx card only a year old is considered legacy and more or less sidelined, and I'm still dumbfounded that not a lot of software doesn't take advantage of hardware acceleration. I'll likely replace the system soon, but it's nice to have an up-to-date spare tire.

System:

AMD Athlon XP 2700 (Barton chip)
ASUS A7N8X2 BIOS 1008 (custom BIOS 4+ terrabyte drives)
8X AGP V3
Sapphire HD 3650 AGP rev 635,
9-11_agp-hotfix_vista32_dd_ccc_633941664031348750 (didn't complain)

O/S each on a different drive (boot set in bios thank you) XP, XPS2, Linux, Win 7

Hello again,

I've noticed that there isn't any SMARTGART tab available in the CCC. I've read in Where has Smartgart gone? [Archive] - VGA Forums that it is owing to the force-installation of the drivers from the Device Manager.

Is there a workaround?

Hello.

Does someone succeed in installing Catalyst 9.11 drivers on Windows 7 with a Radeon HD 4650 ? What manufacturer card ?

If success, how run the hardware acceleration of Flash Player 10.1 ?

I would like buy a Radeon HD 4650 AGP for a Windows 7 system if it's a good idea
(my motherboard has only AGP 4x and PCI 2.2 ports , not PCI express).
