sorry attatched file, went back to start again, when i choose the device driver the display freezes but i can see from hdd led that its still working

Hey, you're welcome. Did you try right clicking on the desktop?

Not too many reason this would happen. One possibility though is if you did an upgrade. In this case, clear the system of all ATI driver files and folders then run jv16 Powertools on aggressive setting clean the registry. Then install it all again.

Alternatively, you could use ATI Tray Tools for may different features and functions.

My main issue is getting people running with the driver. Once that is done, I consider it a success and the rest is on the end user.

Yes, I tried right clicking on the desktop to bring up the menu but there was no CCC option. Also, ran jv16 powertools as suggested, but still no go. Finally, I even tried Custom Installation and the weird thing was that the CCC option wasn't even there during setup (I took a screenshot). The only options available are Install Manager, MS C++, and Catalyst Registration.

I gave up and use ATI Tray Tools instead. Thanks for your help anyway.

If you really want the CCC too, create a system restore point so you are free to "mess around" the system with little worry. You could always revert back to this point then.

Then what you want to do is get every little last piece of ATI drivers, software, registry entries...everything...off the system. Start with "uninstall or change a program" from Computer (Windows Explorer main page with drives.) Check Guru3d.com for "driver sweeper" or something like that (I dunno.) It may help out in the process. jv16 also has a registry search feature to use after cleaning. Use this to search for ATI, Catalyst (put each on own line when telling it to search.) Inspect what it finds and if really all ATI, delete them all.

Once that is done, then you can install again following the OP and everything should be well.

The original post has now been updated to install the 9.11 Catalyst driver. All enjoy. It will now work without further help for the Sapphire 3850 too.

As always, if you have another AGP card, let me know. I'll update for that as well.

Try removing the empty line right after your 3450 line, then save. It might be causing something weird.

Not at the moment. You can try with the new 9.11 I updated the post to.

Which motherboard is it? Try to update the chipset drivers from motherboard site.

You can follow this to post the dump. I'll have a look.

I also notice in device manager that i have multiple errors in display adaptors, all standard vga graphics adaptor
is it this type of card or win7 thats causing hassle with other people

Post a screenshot of the device manager then. I'll look at that too. But I need to know which motherboard.

Alright. What you want to do is right click on all those standard vga ones that are yellow and choose uninstall.

Leave the one without yellow alone. When done, reboot and they should all be gone.

Use CPU-Z to find out which motherboard you're using and let me know. Post a screenshot of the mainboard tab.

Yeah, that should be alright. After you only have one standard vga left, install using the first post of this thread.
