Internet Explorer 9 Beta (64-bit) Spell Checker

Sorry if this is in the wrong section or if this browser is currently discussed in another thread. If so, could someone move this for me?

I just downloaded the newest version of Internet Explorer 9 Beta 64-bit. However, I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't find a spellchecker embedded into their new browser. I'm used to iespell in the 32-bit browser, but it does not load in the 64-bit browser.

I like to use the spell checker at various times as I post on forums and other places and would like to have something "watching my back" as I type.

Any suggestions? What other little add-ons are available for this browser?

I've looked but I can't seem to find it. I now use 64-bit browsers as Adobe finally added support for 64-bit as stated in another thread. However, my spell checker no longer works.

Minefield (Firefox x64) has a built in spell checker, but I keep getting this error every time I load Minefield:

What happened: TypeError: Components.classes[‘@mozilla.org/extensions/manager;1’] is undefined

Minefield seems to randomly crash for no apparent reason. I haven't found the cause yet. I'd use Minefield for the spell checker, but it wants to crash, and I want to use a 64-bit browser now that Adobe supports 64-bit.

As most of the I.E. add-ons are still 32 bit, it's usually better to use the 32 bit I.E. Even in Win 7 64 bit systems, the default I.E. is the 32 bit version.

Windows 7 x64 does not allow me to set IE 9 beta x64 as the default browser. However, I can set Minefield (Firefox x64) as the default browser. Odd.

Also, on the Mozilla forum I found the answer to the error I was receiving above:

:That is likely due to an extension that is not compatible with the beta build. Your user agent string indicates that you have the Ask toolbar, I believe that one is not compatible with Firefox 4 beta builds, try disabling or uninstalling it to see if it helps.

If it is not that one, try disabling other extensions until you find the culprit.

You were right. I disabled and uninstalled the Ask tool bar, and the problem went away. Thanks

I removed the Ask.com toolbar (didn't want it anyway) and the error went away.

I am running an older x64 build of Firefox (Namoroka, v. 3.6.3) without any problems at all. Granted, I use no add-ons and my only plug-in is Java x64. No flash, thank you very much. There are no problems with the spell-checker whatsoever. IE8 x64 also runs well, but I'm just used to Firefox.

Now, what you are talking about are beta versions, I would not expect them to be trouble-free anyway, so if you are keen on IE, I would suggest IE8 x64.

As far as add-ons, is there really something in any of these browsers that you are really missing, or you are just curious about what else can be done with them?

The beta versions run fine, honestly. I fixed my Minefield (Firefox x64 build) error using what I posted above.

Minefield does come with its own built in spell checker like the 32 bit Firefox does. I was wondering if there was such a thing for IE 8 64-bit or IE 9 Beta 64-bit. And yes, I would like to know what can be done with the browsers. I already like the added "search" built within the address bar.

I was wondering if there was such a thing for IE 8 64-bit or IE 9 Beta 64-bit.

As far as I know IE does not have a built-in spell checker tool. There are add-ons available to fill the void, for example ieSpell (which is free). However, I do not use it myself and thus can't say whether it will work with the 64-bit version of IE, the website does not say anything about it, at least nothing that I could see in a minute.

Seriously? IE 9 STILL has no built in spell check? I don't get it. How hard can it be to integrate something that you've been experts at since the 90s? How long has spell-check been in MS Word? As many forms and things need INPUT in the Internet era, you would think Microsoft would see the light. Let's hope it makes it to the final version. I hate using some random add-on to get my spellcheck.

IESPELL didn't even work that well when I tried it on IE 7, so I don't want it even even if it was comptabile with Windows 7 64-bit. It didn't spell check in certain areas such as forum posts etc..
IE7Pro is not compatible with Windows 7 and it is a junky app that looks full of bloatware.

This is crazy and annoying. I gave up on WMP for iTunes because they refused to add podcast support and now it's time to give up on IE for Firefox and Chrome because Microsoft refuses to add a built in spell checker.

I'm sure I used ieSpell with Internet Explorer in the past and there was some problem with it that made it a hassle to use compared to the native spell check in Firefox and Chrome and I gave up on it.
Maybe it had to be launched manually each time I wanted to spell check instead of automatically highlighting misspelled words as I typed.

That still isn't anything like having native support like every other browser. With other browsers, you get instant feedback with a red squiggly line under misspelled words as you type. No need to install third party add-ons to the browser that could cause problems and then also have to remember to manually spell check.
On top of this, they don't work with 64-bit OS anyway, so it is not even an option.
Microsoft just needs to add native spell checking to IE.

I don't know about IE 9 but Microsoft claim that ieSpell won't work in the 64 bit IE 8. I believe them.

Why MS have never included a native spellchecker is a good question.

This is exactly the question I have. Why after 9 iterations of Internet Explorer are we still relying on 3rd party apps to check spelling? This makes absolutely no sense at all to me. This should have been a standard a long time ago. I'm using IE9 right now and I like it a lot. If they don't infuse a spell check, I'll go back to Google Chrome in protest. Are the developers having discussions about this at all?
