Internet Explorer and SysInternals' Process Explorer

(I'm aware of the SysInternals Forum but I can't seem to get a registration e-mail out of it.)

IE can take A LOT of cpu. So I have long used Process Explorer to see which web sites are associated with the high-cpu instances of IE. (It's not a perfect technique as it does not identify which site is the culprit, but at least it narrows it down.)

But Process Explorer no longer displays the web sites (I guess it was actually displaying the titles of the windows/tabs). Now it shows me only Command Line and Path information. This may have started when not too long ago IE was updated. In any event the IE I am running now is IE10. I thought that maybe Process Explorer needed an update too but that has not helped.

I would gladly dump IE and use Chrome, which tells me exactly which tabs/sites are soaking up huge amounts of cpu, but Chrome (on my system at least) has a huge video problem. FF I don't even want to consider because it's such a disaster on my XP laptop.

So it would be great if I could just get Process Explorer to give me the IE info it used to. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Bob

The issue is not with Process Explorer but with Internet Explorer. That only way that Process Explorer, or any other program of it's kind, can know which website a browser is displaying is by it's title bar. Since IE10 shows nothing it's title bar, at least in it's default configuration, there is nothing that Process Explorer can do. And since IE handles all tabs under the same process the title wouldn't mean much anyway. The contents of IE tabs is essentially unknowable to Process Explorer.

I don't think there is any way to do what you want with Internet Explorer, or most other browsers either.

Thanks LMiller7. But Process Explorer used to show me tab titles no too long ago. How it did it I do not know. And it could not do it for the tabs in Chrome.

I finally found the registration email from SysInternals. (Outlook.com was putting it in my Junk folder!) Hopefully someone there will be able to shed some light on this.

Thanks, Bob
