Solved Issue with USB inputs, can't use mouse or keyboard

Hey guys,

This problem came out of nowhere...I realized that flash drives weren't recognized by my computer. As my computer was shutting down, I got a BSOD saying that AppleCharger.sys was the culprit. After researching the problem, I restarted the computer - but now Windows didn't recognize any of my USB inputs. They work in the BIOS, but upon reaching my login screen (regular boot and safe mode), my mouse and keyboard don't work. I did a System Restore to a state 5 days ago, still doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas?...

You have a gigabyte motherboard? They have a utility to turn off the charging utility because it's a common culprit of bluescreens.

I would unplug the computer with your power cable, hold the power button for 10 seconds, and the reseat the cable and turn the PC back on.

Also reset BIOS to defaults and try again.

Yes I've heard of this.

I did as you prompted to no avail. I'm a bit wary about resetting the BIOS, how would that help when the issue seems to be with Windows?

Don't know if this is relevant, but keyboard+mouse work in Startup Repair.

seems like your hands are tied on this one then if they don't work in safe mode either. These are not wireless mouse/keyboard right? I'm thinking after you blue screen a file may have got corrupt.

One option would be to do a repair install of Win 7 if you don't want clean install. You could try running chkdsk /r in the recovery environment but I'm not sure if it will do much.

Someone else may need to throw their ideas in here.

I was considering booting the computer with an ubuntu live disk and renaming the AppleCharger.sys driver to applecharger.sys.old...that might help the bsod issue but I'm not sure about this

And yeah, wired mouse/keyboard.

To get the keyboard and mouse to work, you may want to boot into the safe mode a few times, if you can.

I am not sure if it helps, but try "sfc /scannow" in Recovery console.
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows
where d is your Windows partition.

My system has perpetually had "errors" that windows was never able to resolve, so doing this only gave me a message to reboot the system to initiate pending repairs.

Rebooted into safe mode 5+ times, I'm going to stop doing that before my hard drive dies from force powerdowns haha.

You need to add "/offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows" options too, not just "sfc /scannow".

Restored off a 3 month old system image , no idea what the problem was. Thanks for all of the help though, guys.
