I have been trying for the past 2 months to get KB952241 to install, but it continues to fail. And I cannot get any help from Support except to direct me to this forum. So, if there are any MS people on this thing, please advise as to how to get this installed. I have log files from the installation if needed. Thanks.

I do have VS 2008 installed. Not sure why it would be HW related. But its a dual code with 2gb ram ati radeon raptor HDDs nothing else really exciting. Its a development box which I keep pretty clean; only those tools needed to build windows/web applications. I do have sql 2008 running which is why i need the update. there are MS Report viewer updates in the package (well at least from what I read). I am running Trend Micro IS Pro, but this problem has existed since Windows 7 was installed. Other thoughts?

You do not need this update. Windows Vista SP1 and above is not effected. Visual Studio 2008 SP1 is also not affected. And it is not SQL Server 2008 but rather 2005.

Well great. Can we get the update removed from the Windows Update, then? If I am not affected then why is it telling me that I have to install it? So either MS has messed up or there are other considerations (like maybe it's a .Net Framework 1.1 update which is installed).

I do have SQL2008 SP1 installed. And here is some info on my sys:
ASUS MB
Intel Core Duo
2GB RAM
2 - 150GB WD Raptor Drives
ATI Radeon 2600
DVD-RW
BD-ROM
Viewsonic Monitor

Software
Windows 7 Ultimate (RTM)
Trend Micro Pro 2010
Office Ent. 2007 SP2
Visual Studio 2008 SP1
SQL 2008 SP1 (reporting Services and Analysis Services also install)
telerik Suite

So, while I find this problem interesting, it seems that it would take me less time to just rebuild the thing again since all my data is on a seperate drive, I woudl need to only grab my PST file and start over. I was hoping to see if anybody could make sense of teh log file created during the supposed install of this update and tell me what went wrong. But eh, I guess my curiosity is killing me now. Thanks.

Well, it only took me 3 hours and I rebuilt the system drive. So at this point I would say my issue has been resolved. Thx.
