User Folders in Windows 7 Libraries​

   Information

Libraries let you access and arrange items from one or more folders quickly without moving them from their original location. Libraries themselves don't store your files or folders. Instead, they point to different locations on a hard disk or external drive attached to your computer. This gives you easy access to a category of files no matter where they are stored. For instance, if you have music files on your hard disk and on an external drive, you can access all of your music files from within the "Music" library.

This will show you the Personal User folders that are now also included in the Windows 7 Libraries.

   Tip

By default Windows 7 has the Personal and Public folders included in the Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos library locations.

• Public User folders are folders shared by all users. These folders are located at C:\Users\Public.
• Personal User folders are the folders for a single user. These folders are located at C:\Users\User-Name.

The full path to the hidden Libraries folder is below.

C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries

OR

%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries

   Warning

To be able to search in libraries, the Windows Search service needs to be Started and set to Automatic. Libraries require it's included folders to also be added to the index to be tracked properly even though they will still open properly.

EXAMPLE: Default Libraries




In the Start Menu:1. Open the Start Menu.

2. If Displayed as a Link
NOTE: This is the default Start Menu Customize setting for the Personal Libraries option.A) Right click on the User Name button and click on Open. (See screenshot below)

B) You will now see the Libraries window. (See screenshot below)



3. If Displayed as a Menu
NOTE: You will only see this if you have the Personal Libraries option to display as a Menu in the Start Menu Customize settings.A) Click on the User Name button to have it expand the library folders. (See screenshot below)

You could right click on an empty area of the tutorial, and click/tap on "Save as" to save the page as an HTML file.

You can also print the tutorial if wanted.
