Being 100% secure is impossible because there'll always be a chance of someone using some unknown vulnerability against you, however you can be 99% secure if you're just careful. You can do perfectly well without an antivirus software if you only download from trusted sites and don't fall for fake AVs or plugins. An AV is a privilege, not a necessity anymore. I'd still recommend it as having a database of known malicious software can always come in handy, so here's what IMO you need to be 99% protected:
1.Limited User Account with UAC on Max Settings.
2.An light antivirus software.
If you want to go ahead and download things you know could me malicious, then run them in Sandboxie (still you should check if they're safe on virustotal and threatexpert), and if you buy things online and want to be almost 100% sure nothing can steal you passwords get the free PrevX SafeOnline.
