Solved migrate hdd to ssd

Going slow not to make mistake. the drive letter for the cloned USB is (F) [see top of either previous captures]. However, the fix window drop down does not offer drive F.

2. I'm referring to the drop down showing on my capture, Repair Window capture 1, attached again. It's the Fix part of the window I'm referring to. It doesn't offer (F), the USB I think you're talking about running the repair on.

You should have 2 partition on the cloned disk

They both need drive letters.

*: is displayed nt6repair cannot find it because you haven't given it a drive letter. That is also why you can't see it in windows explorer.

Do you know how to assign a drive letter?

Post a screenshot of disk management window so we can make sure your usb connected disk is properly recognized as a fixed disk.

If you don't know how to do that:

Type diskmgmt.msc in start search box. Click it when it pops up.

How is the disk connected - are you using a dock of some kind? There also seem to be 2 active flags, which ought to be simple to fix.

I hadn't gone to diskmgmt b4. Yes, second line has 11.69 GB, Healthy and the allocated. Now, do what? You're great to stay with me.

Here's the F: drive again (a USB). It's in a USB jack. The hdd is in the pc. The sdd will replace it and then based on EaseUS I should be able to change bios to go with USB first. Then swap hdd with the sdd, Cold boot and the USB F: drive is suppose to boot, then restore from F: to the new ssd.

Disk Management shows Disk1 as Removable.

The partition that only shows "help" is probably set with id 0x27

Changing the id to 07 should allow you the options.

It can be done with bootice.

1. I had responded, just didn't click Post. duh. The clone in on a thumb drive. The hdd is presently in the pc. The ssd is ready to replace the hdd. As per EaseUS... change bios for a USB boot, shut down, swap out hdd to sdd. Cold boot was suppose to load from the USB - that's when I wrote you. Plan is to then restore from the USB clone to the blank ssd. FYI, I also have an emergency boot disk just in case.
2. My intention is not to create a VHD, but was trying anything to assign a drive for the one USB partition.
3. I take it if we can assign the partition as G: and make it bootable, the pc will recognize the USB. If correct, I might be on my way... hoping.
4. Heading to bed. Pick up Thursday.

Correct, a 1TB thumbdrive. Ran bootice, but so many tabs and options. Tried, but no go. Going to see if EaseUS will respond today for answers. Stand by.

win7 only allows access to one partition for removable flash disks.

If you want to access a different partition, bootice can change which one is accessible.

There shouldn't be two active partitions on one disk, so before using bootice inactivate the second partition on the thumbdrive.



At cmd prompt type:

diskpart
(then press enter)
sel vol F:
(then press enter)
inact
(then press enter)
exi
(then press enter)

close cmd prompt.


Run Bootice

select the flash disk in the "Destination Disk" dropdown. Click parts manage.

Click on the partition you want to access. Click "set accessible". It takes a few seconds.




Then assign a drive letter.





It takes a couple of seconds then you can close bootice.
