Mixing internal HDD size drives

I am running an HP with W7 and have 3 internal HDD's, all of them are 2 Tb. I want to replace one or two of them with 4Tb drives. Is this a problem? I do not have them in a RAID configuration, they are independent drives formatted in NTFS.

Is this a problem?
Anything I need to do to prepare for a 4Tb drive?

It won't be a problem at all to have different sized hard drives. It would only matter if you were going to use them in a RAID setup.



For a 4TB drive, depending on how you wanted to use it, you may need to:

• If you wanted one large 4TB partition, then you could format the drive using GPT instead of MBR for this.
• If you are going to have more than one partition each under 2TB on the 4TB drive, you wouldn't need to do anything different.

MBR disks supports up to 2TB per single partition. Default, and can be used on data and OS disks.

GPT disks supports up to 256TB per single partition. Should only be used on data disks, and not for a OS disk.
