New CPU Any Precautions?

I made sure i enabled all cores in BIOS and im using cpu-z and aida64 to get readings will take some screens.

Also i turned off turbo and havent touched clock settings only bumped my RAM to 1600 as thats how i had it on 1090t also turned off all the cool n quiet and amd power saver along with thermal control i forget what its called but its the one that drops clock and voltage.

Will post back in a few with screens.

You can leave cool and quiet on that is why your performance droped

Power settings should be turbo off

automatic core control on

cool and quiet on makes no difference to turn it off runs better with it on leave C6 on

spread spectrum off

I actually have a thread here on how to overclock Bulldozer i might need to bring this up for you to understand that some functions that were good to turn off back then don't need to be turned off now

here you go this is the first and most accurate thread of Oc'ing Bulldozer FX chips or FX period there is also another guy here named Tweek that has the same experience with these chips http://www.sevenforums.com/overclocking-case-mods/221743-bulldozers-overclocking-cpus.html

also this one http://www.sevenforums.com/overclocking-case-mods/230233-my-new-bulldozer-has-shipped.html linnemeyerhere is another who can help you

I leave cool n quiet off as im running a full water loop setup so i dont need it on as for the other settings will do a reboot and check.

What do you make of it claiming its only 4 cores though? while the "name" of it in some programs shows as eight core the actual specs claim its only 4.

update the programs you are using

cool and quiet needs to stay on these chips aren't like the 1090t they get much hotter

and I have a water loop as well and it still needs to be on all of us would agree to this

Would turning it off not affect performance while it has to clock itself back up? also i thought power management was bad for the pumps?

But anyway i have Hardware Thermal Control off, Smart fan off (that way theyre running 100% all the time), im not sure what AMD APM is (Application Power Management) but dunno what it means exactly i couldnt find spread spectrum.

BUT i think i may have fixed performance issue sonce i set Cpu core to manual it disabled "one core per compute unit" so it was only running four cores after i set that back to auto windows installed the other 4 cores and now it reads 8... so i'll do another windows index and see how it goes.

Exactly have you been reading the material i suggested for you help you get some of you issues out of the way

For me when i turned off cool and quiet it had negative results

it isn't only me even people who overclocked these things to the greatest potential says the same thing there is no gain in it some people try to make a case but in the end it is not worth it

As you can see it increased my index back up to 7.8 and even pushed my ram to 7.9

Will re-enable cool n quiet on next boot, and while we're on the subject i was outside having a cigarette and had a thought... wouldn't "Hardware Thermal Control" and "Cool n Quiet" clash seeing as they both do the same thing?

you mean in the Bios?

Hardware thermal control can be the option for the whole unit if it gets to hot has a shut down point

cool and quiet is to operate the cpu in a fast but cool state even though it is overclocked i would doubt they will clash

if you feel that something does change while doing so just switch it back but i left all my thermal monitors and controls on i would think it was for the better

it doesnt hold my oc back at all

Awesome im officially undisappointed lol.

Will turn my thermal controls back on and try for some high clock speeds, also i just ran the same bench's i did earlier and absolutely smashed the previous scores along with some i7 scores also so that makes me a happy man.

Thanks alot for your info Solar your a legend will definately be giving you some rep and will post my stable clock speeds on here (not that anyone cares) but everyone should get to brag once in a while, thanks again.

You are welcome glad i could help

Im going to be trying one of those chips in a week or two myself

also when doing your v-core go little by little you might be able to find a sweet spot with out using to much juice

Thanks for the rep as well, it was my pleasure helping out :geek:

yeah they changed the way of doing things now just uping the multi was the best now you hae to use a combination of fsb and multi to get good results which makes sense

if you have overclockable ram go to its actual settings and use fsb from there

don't have to crank it much

Have set my ram 1333 to start with so i have room to move on FSB as my ram is rated 1600 but have had it higher.

At the moment im sitting on 4.5ghz @ 1.440V-core and + .50mv on NB VID weirdly enough the raise in NB VID got me booting to windows, gonna try for higher but im VERY close to my psu rating and have had black screen already when i raised v-core by another .50 so lowered that paired with nb vid got me to windows.

Sounds like you are getting solid results

Im glad you have it going in the right direction I wonder what your cinebench will read since this is a 15 to 20% increase in chip performance from the Bulldozer line

I managed to get to 4.8 before I had to sleep it seems stable BUT I must be volting over my psu limit as I'm running an HX850 and my current draw is around 902w so I have an Enermax 1500w on the way and once I can run OCCT stable for 6 hours I'll post a cinebench readout, any particular version that's the best?
