No Mouse Pointer on Install

Hi, guys.

I have a puzzling problem. I've been using the same install DVD for Windows 7 (one I made from an ISO) for years now, and have never run across this problem until now. When I boot from the DVD to install Windows 7, on the first installation screen there is no mouse pointer, so I am unable to proceed with the install. How do I get around this? I'm using the same hardware (mouse, etc.) that I've always used, so I don't get why this is happening. Please shed some light into this. Thank you.

As a workaround for now, are you able to use the Tab or arrow keys to highlight what you want, and press Enter to select it?

Hello, Brink. Thank you for your reply. No. It's like the keyboard is dead as well as the mouse.

If this is a USB mouse and keyboard, check you BIOS settings to make sure that you have them enabled at boot.

In addition, if you're using a USB hub, see if they may work when they are connected directly to a USB port on the back of the motherboard.

If all else fails, do you have an old PS2 mouse/keyboard to use until Windows is installed?

Any chance you're plugged into a usb3 or 3.1 port instead of a usb 2.0 port for both devices ?
Win-7 installer does not have 3.0 or 3.1 drivers.
What type of board and cpu are you installing on ?

Fast boot disable USB till it has finished booting.

Thank you for your reply, Brink. The USB ports are all enabled. See the attached photo. As for a PS2 mouse/keyboard, unfortunately my computer only has USB ports, no PS2.

No. The mouse and keyboard are both plugged into USB 2.0 ports in the back of the PC. The only USB 3.0 ports I have are in the front and they aren't being used. The processor is an Intel Core i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz (Haswell). The motherboard is a Dell Lynx Point Z87.

Fast boot is not enabled. The hardware is the one in my profile, yes.

If it's on a USB 3.x port it won't work as Win 7 installation disk don't have the drivers for them.

Yes. They are connected to USB 2.0 ports.

It seems that the mouse and the USB port are working.
Look at your BIOS at Peripherals
While xHCI hand-off should be ENABLED, eHCI hand-off should be DISABLED.

I don't see either xHCI hand-off or eHCI hand-off in my BIOS.

Pretty weird z87/ i7-4790 you should not have any issues
Possibly create the installer again
Rufus has never failed
USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create - Windows 7 Help Forums

Optimize default in bios and fast start is the only setting you should have to disable.
If possible use a different usb 2.0 port and mouse and keyboard too :/
