No way to crack Chrome OS

I do most of my surfing in a Linux Mint virtual machine these days. This article confirms that I am on the right track.

I just put ChromeOS on a VM yesterday, as a matter of fact. It handles most everything that my grandkids surfed to. I may just have to find a way to get it installed on a separate partition for the days that they visit, and preserve my windows install....

The VM hardware settings aren't tweaked up, so graphics are slow, etc...

Haven't looked. I just wanted to see what the OS looked like and play around a little.

Also, I should mention that I'm currently using the free Oracle VM VirtualBox.

I used virtual box for many years but have now switched to VMware Player. With vBox I always had trouble with the network connections in the host. I find VMware Player easier to use and to manage.

I get excellent results - also in terms of performance. There is quasi no difference between the host performance and the guest performance. And for the internet, I use Mint most of the time because it is safer and faster. Even when I run from and external USB3 attached disk the performance impact is very minimal. But, of course, all my system disks are SSDs. I run Linux Mint, Linux Zorin, Ubuntu and Windows 8 that way.

Knew it wouldn't last long, nothing is unhackable. People will always find a way always! I wouldn't be suprised if they get fully into it.

All things considered, I view Chromebook as nothing more than a netbook that runs NOTHING other than a browser, with enough memory to handle quite a few tabs and the like... ChromeOS seems like it's just "Chrome-in-a-box". All of the settings from my Chrome browser in Win7 followed me over to the Chromebook VM (as it was intended). All of the apps followed me as well. I'm not suprised, and I anticipated all of this, but, something in the back of my head winces every time we call this an OS.

I'm forced to re-evaluate my definition of OS, I guess. It's just that I was hoping to avoid the cloud for a little while longer. ChromeOS might become the reason I stop worrying and learn to love the cloud (apologies to Stanley Kubrick).
