Hello All.
I'm having a problem installing Onedrive on Windows 7 Home Premium. It will install with no problem on one account, but not on the one I want it to. The error from the the install log is:

06/16/2015 11:30:01.783 RegistryManager: !ERROR! (0x80070005) RegCreateKeyExW() failed for Key Software\Classes\CLSID\{F8071786-1FD0-4A66-81A1-3CBE29274458} with Value SyncFileInformationProvider Class and use64BitRegistryView = 1
06/16/2015 11:30:01.783 RegistryManager: !ERROR! (0x80040CA0) Failed to register per-user Office COM objects
06/16/2015 11:30:01.783 SetupComponentLogger: SetupComponentSettingsFolderMigration::InstallComponent - enter
06/16/2015 11:30:01.783 SetupComponentLogger: oneDriveInstallRoot: C:\Users\we all\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive
06/16/2015 11:30:01.783 SetupComponentLogger: oneDriveSettingsRoot: C:\Users\we all\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\Settings
06/16/2015 11:30:01.783 SetupComponentLogger: SetupComponentSettingsFolderMigration - No existing settings folder
06/16/2015 11:30:01.783 SetupController: !ERROR! (0x80040CA0) Installation has failed, cleaning up

Seeing that the installer was having trouble creating a registry key, I changed the account to an administrator account and also turned off Bitdefender (free). I still have the error. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for all the ideas GokAy!

Yes SP 1 is installed and updated - I installed all the optional updates as well, just in case

I gave CCleaner a run through the registry.

I also hit it with SFC and CheckSUR.

There have been no changes to the problem after any of these attempts. It does really seem like it's a registry or permissions issue since Onedrive installs with no problem for the other user on the machine.

Ok, couple of more ideas :)

Did you try with the built-in admin account (you will have to enable first), or a new admin type account?
Do you have older version installed? Would you mind uninstalling if so?

It installs fine on a test account, even as a Standard User. Maybe that's not what you meant.

The account in question was migrated from a Vista install (with Windows Easy Transfer), and Onedrive was installed on it on Vista. What I suspect is that there is something left in the registry (or somewhere else) from that old install that is hanging up the new install. But what?!

Go to Control Panel - Programs and Features and uninstall if there is any "Microsoft OneDrive" entry.

Maybe you are better off with a new account, can get files from your current account and there shouldn't be any problems.

There's definitely no entry in Programs and Features. At this point you're probably right - the chase is more complicated than it's worth. Thanks for all your suggestions! They were educational for me even though the problem has proven too elusive to track down.

I just got it! It turned out to be a registry permissions issue as we had suspected. The key in question is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID

I had to give my user Full Control on this key and then Onedrive installed without a hitch! I was assuming that the SubInAcl process that you recommended, Gokay would have dealt with this, but apparently not. I take no credit for ferreting this out. I found it in the responses to this post:

None of the suggestions here or in several other forums I've visited solved the problem. Running Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, SP1 + all updates, Office 365/16 Home. Tried install of latest OneDrive version, failed; uninstalled existing OneDrive in Control Panel, failed; tried running as Administrator, failed; deleted registry key for OneDrive, failed; changed the installer's compatibility property to XP SP3, failed; I give up.

I gave up too.

Mine installed just fine. But performance was poor. Many uploads to OneDrive would fail. Retry. Fail. Retry. Fail. Retry. Finally works.

Next file, same thing. Fail, retry, fail, retry.

Small files seemed to work okay. But anything bigger than a few MB gave trouble. So I gave up.

I moved to Google Drive. It works, and it works, and it works. Problem solved.
