OSX and Windows 7 Dual Boot

I tried that too - having the OSX on a different disk.
Got the same error too. Solution for me was to partition the Windows OS disk and install the OSX on the same physical drive. The OSX bootloader didn't like being on a secondary disk.

Either way - in order to fix that, you DO NEED to run the EasyBCD 2.0 (Beta build 76).
- The chain boot loader it provides works.
- That version also contains the FIX for HFS+ problems - which probably also cause your problems.

my solution is on page 6 - called: SOLVED! DualBoot Windows 7 + OSX

I think everyone who has done this has made the point clear.

"We don't care". Apple wants to charge outrageous prices for their hardware, fine. They can do that while I run OS X on my HP Laptop. ;)

wasn't that more or less the stand that Psystar's Online Store - Open Computing Solutions featuring Mac OS X Leopard, Windows and Linux took before apple sued the crap out of them? i think it was ruled as piracy am i right?

People just love arguing with me when I wake up.

Pystar may have lost but that doesn't mean anything. Also, correct me if I am wrong (I tend to be), but doesn't a EULA that states you may ONLY use something on THEIR hardware break some laws here in the USA?

absolutely and without doubt. apple has created a monopoly for their products. if microsoft did the same thing they would be back in anti trust court within minutes, but since apple holds a small percentage of the market share no one bothers to debate this issue. that is precisely why i don't buy apple's products, i don't like the way they do business.

Yes, that or the EU would be up their rears like they have been. Oh well, one day someone will bite Apple in the rear and make them change a few things.

Until that day, I'll still be making my HP a 'Hackintosh'. ;)

i admit if apple decided tomorrow that they would start allowing other manufacturers and home buyers to use their software on their own choice of hardware i would have a mac, as it stands now though i'll just hold a grudge against them

It should not effect OS X in any way, in terms of performance. Parallels I believe is basically a virtual machine (I could be wrong, never checked). Not something you want to use if you intend to play games.

Hi mac7 - I haven't tried this myself on account on not having the right (read: correct) apple hardware.
But If I had, then the BootCamp method seems to be the way to achieve this. This is in fact a true dual boot and is NOT a virtual drive.

I DO recomend however the following:

  1. Read the tutorial (and the forum comments) thoroughly it may save you a lot of hassle
  2. Get hold of a REAL windows 7 installation disk. Or at least a copy of the FINAL RELEASE. The tutuorial link provided by Valtonray (?) uses the W7 Beta.
  3. Also: IF you use an "illegal" copy of W7 you also need a Windows 7 Loader which let you choose a real vendor Liscense -thus making W7 legal. In my experience the 7Loader does the trick very neatly (Releaselog | RLSLOG.net 7Loader Release 4-Orbit30)

Again I haven't tried it this way but it's no reason it shouldn't be a walk in the park :)
After all we are able to make OSX work on a non-mac machine - and believe me - That is NO
walk in the park...

Good Luck !

How about dual booting OSx and windows 7 in something other than a mac? There are some features of OS-X that I really like, but the hardware in my $900 laptop would cost almost $3000 if I bought a MacBook Pro with the same specs.

I'm trying to install osx using kalyway 10.5.2 on an AMD hp tx2500 series tablet but I can't get started because I can't find the chameleon JMicron 1.0.11 patch that it seems that I need. It is even missing from the Chameleon website.

Obviously when I try the install without it it just get stuck. Does anyone know where to get this file or if there is any updated distro or chameleon package that I should be using instead for this machine?

isn't this still against apple's EULA?

I think everyone who has done this has made the point clear.

"We don't care". Apple wants to charge outrageous prices for their hardware, fine. They can do that while I run OS X on my HP Laptop. ;)

Could you tell me how you were able to install OS X?? I appreciate your help. Thanks, Lucas

Unfortunately I cannot tell you where to find these things. A google search however should pull up what you need.
