Hello Sevenforums.com,

I have been having problems with my PC where it would just randomly crash when gaming for no reason? No BSOD just crash and restart?

The games I play are team fortress 2 and killing floor *Steam Games "Paid for"*, The games would load fine no errors no lag I would play the game and BOOM would randomly crash and restart, I have no idea why :( And I really hate it! I built this pc for gaming and it seems it cant even do that... It only crashes when playing a game (Thought some games do work fine "XCOM Enemy Unknown & saints row 3") it would never crash other then that *I have had BSOD but forgot the message thought dose are rare*

My PC:
OS Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1
CPU AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 840 Processor
Motherboard Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-MA770T-UD3
Memory 8.00 GB
Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GT 240
Sound Card (1) NVIDIA High Definition Audio (2) NVIDIA High Definitio
Screen Resolution 1440 x 900 x 32 bits (4294967296 colors) @ 59 Hz
Hard Drives SAMSUNG HD154UI SATA Disk Device

Notes:
*My graphics card is uptodate, So says the site.
*I really don't think its a overheat problem, I have four fans inside my pc and Speedfan show my temps below 40C.
*I don't have any mods or anything for dose games.
*I have run'd memtest+ and has come back with 0 errors.
*I have scanned my pc with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware with 0.
*I have Avira installed and yep with 0.
*I have used prime95 left it for a long time got to test 10 *and closed it* CPU was at 100% no crash.
*I have used FurMark got 25116 Frams time 00:47:08 and still no crash CPU at 100%.
*I have used HD Tune did a error check all green blocks no reds or nothing."Here is a photo of my benchmark http://oi48.tinypic.com/352ordh.jpg"
*I have done a sfc /scannow and everything is fine.*Have added the .txt to the .zip*
*My windows 7 has been re-installed many of times and well its not really fix'd it.
*Files from SF_Diagnostic_Tool have been added.
*PC is not overclocked.

I really don't know what is wrong? And It sucks how I got to quit games like this :(
Yes this error has gone on for some time and normally I just let it go forget about it.. But its really ticked me off and well I normally come here when I have other pc problems, and this site sure dose help :D! So I hope someone can help me here with my problem <3

► Do a thorough disc check:

  1. Update your SSD's Firmware (skip it, if it is not a SSD)
  2. Reseat the sata and power.
  3. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
  4. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Uninstall Avira.
Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download and install those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Uninstall Daemon Tools.
It is a very well known cause of Crashes with a windows 7 system.

Let us know the results.

Hey Arc,

Just wanted to say thank you for getting back to me! :)

I will be sure to follow your steps and I will post back later to tell you my findings

I do have two questions

1, "2. Reseat the sata and power." What do you mean by this? I don't understand
2, "4. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download" They both go to the same site? I just want to make sure before I waste a disc

Thanks

Those two cables ... open them from your hard disk's end, clean them, and then plug them back.

For your second question, yes, it is the same in the both.

So, let us know the results when you are done?

I just get kind of bummed because you all made a post similar to mine but beat me by seconds, which makes it look like I copied you all. Been out of the computer scene for a while, haven't really done too much with Win7, just made the upgrade to it back in 2010.

But it is all good.

Hello, MrUser01. How long did you run memtest86+ and Prime95? What were your CPU temps while running Prime95?
Use a good CPU temp program while you run Prime95 and keep a close watch on it. Stop the test if temps get too high. I use Core temp. You may also watch CPU and GPU temps while playing games. After you finish with Arc's suggestions, if no problems are found and you are still crashing, Please try these things. Memtest needs to be run for 7 passes, usually best to run it overnight, Prime95 needs to be run for 2 hours according to the tutorial, I prefer several hours longer, but again, keep close watch on CPU temps. These tutorials may help.

Back after doing some tests from what was said.

@Arc

I did your Seatool and it come back passed! I did the long scan.
20121105231.jpg

I no longer have Avira or Daemon Tools anymore, And I have Microsoft Security Essentials. I did a scan *one by one both fully updated* And I got 0 on Microsoft Security Essentials and 0 on malwarebytes.
After doing all of that, I went back to my game working working fine.. Crash! *I have added a new dump*

@Essenbe
When I did memtest + I only left it for one pass and got 0 errors.. I did not record the temps when I was using Prime95, So I retook them and left it running for two hours! *As said* Here are my photos of my temps

What about Disk Check?

Do you have another HD on which you can do a perfect test install to rule out the HD as suspect?

Read over these steps for the Best Practices to get a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are the same for retail, to compare how close you have come to getting it perfect only using the tools and methods which work best with Win7.

If not consider getting a baseline perfect reinstall after wiping the HD with Diskpart Clean Command making sure especially to follow the best practices for drivers, leaving out the driver bloatware packages and favoring first the drivers given by Win7.

I agree that it sounds like hardware but you can't rule out software until you have a baseline perfect reinstall. In these same situations over the past three years, the end results have split about 50-50.

@Slartybart
Yes they don't show my fans that well, Must of been how I set them up.. I have four fans two on top, one on the side, one on the back.. Also two more one on the graphics card and the other on the power pack.. Thought they are working and running fine!

@gregrocker

I went to go and do the Disk check as you said here and here you are:
20121106234.jpg

image1ryx.jpg

I only have the one HD so I cant do other tests.. But a HD programs say my HD is healthy?
When I get home later I will! Do a fresh install of windows 7 64 bit :)

Anymore tests I can do for you? I really want my pc to stop crashing.

Thanks

I did not go through each and every post in this thread, but something struck me about that Seatools run.

For some reason SMART is available, but is disabled. I'm not sure you can say what's happened internally with that drive. Is it really okay for the long term, or ready to die in a few minutes?

I'm aware there are ways to enable it, but I've never run across a drive where it was disabled (at least that I can recall), so I've never really looked very hard at those tools. You've got to be able to talk to the drive at a much lower level to do it.

How old is your motherboard?

How old my motherboard is? Well I brought it on Fri 18th Feb 2011 and my pc was built about 2-3 days after that..

Am not sure why Smart happened, I just did what was said "Burn to disc, run it, do a long scan" Am not going to lie I have never ever heard of Seatools before this is my first time ever using it..

How old my motherboard is? Well I brought it on Fri 18th Feb 2011 and my pc was built about 2-3 days after that..

No, I'm not saying you did anything wrong. It's just that SMART shows as disabled and it's not easy to intentionally or even mistakenly do that. So I'm just wondering how it happened, and if you can have any real confidence in the results that you received from the tests you ran.

Motherboard is probably fine if it was brand new at the time you mentioned (as far as SMART is concerned).

No, no reason to redo. You'll likely get the same result anyway.

Follow Britton's advice, follow the link he posted to find the diagnostics program for your particular brand of hard drive and run it.
