PC randomly crashes when gaming?

Don't worry about back filling the info, just keep it in mind for future posts. You didn't waste my time, only I can waste my time =:>

There are two schools of thought going on trying to resolve the issue with your PC.
1) Fix what might be broken - ended when you re-installed Windows
2) Start fresh

You have already taken the start fresh path and Greg is the best around here to help continue down that path.

I'll step back so Greg and you can work through this.

Best of luck,

Bill
.
@Slartybart,
Thanks for looking :D, Sorry if I wasted your time then <3 Am glad the new info helps out more :) I did get disk with my motherbored *Thought I don't know how old the stuff on there is, but they work*

I will get onto that now :)

And no no thank you! And everyone here on sevenforums.com much love to you all!/QUOTE]

And, BTW, I am not that good, I'm just a pack rat. I keep most everything.

Cut yourself some slack. Apparently you're an efficiently organized pack rat! ;)

I'm somewhat of a pack rat myself, but I certainly could be a little better organized. :o

@F5ing,
Here are your CrystalDiskInfo results..
Sadly no screenshots as do my pc crashed :(

Well, airflow temp, drive temp, and runtime hours are updating. Can you toggle the BIOS SMART setting and do it again?

Took another look at your SMART data and noticed it has a relatively new attribute, called "End to End Errors", indicating a newer version of SMART (some are calling it SMART IV). The odd thing is, is that this is the only attribute in your list that seems to indicate your drive might've encountered some problems in the past. Not saying there aren't other issues, it's just that it's the only one I see that's apparently changed for the worse (compared to a new healthy drive), at least as far as I can tell. A couple of other attributes might also be indicating problems but I can't say with any level of confidence. Most of your other attributes look good and healthy.

There are a number of Samsung Diagnostic apps included in this distribution: http://www.hirensbootcd.org/files/Hirens.BootCD.15.1.zip

Burn to a DVD (not sure it'll fit on a CD), boot it and find the Samsung stuff amongst all the other hard drive tools.

@gregrocker,
I did!I read it step by step but there was some steps I skipped..
like step 3, I only backed up what I needed not dragged my whole user folder.

But when you (I) format my pc and then get back onto it I have no internet what so ever as do I have to install the drivers for that.. How can I update without the internet?

That is true, But like I said no internet no way of getting updates..

And Yes I have windows updates on and right now there is nothing new.

@Slartybart,
Still thanks for looking ^^, Am just not sure which files I should download? Or should I just get them all?

Like I said I will do anything to fix my PC I don't have money to buy a new pc (I would just do that makes life so much more easier) But I do have money to replaces parts eg ram cpu hd etc.. But am just not sure what to change and replace.
Thanks Bill <3

@F5ing,
But I did.. I had SMart on then off (Right now its on) And I left that program running, Not sure if it replaces the old files or if it just edits them with a new date/time ?

Would it help if I swap HD's? I have a 160GB in my old pc doing nothing. (thought I would have to reinstall windows 7)

Downloaded
Burned it
will test
*Edit I used the disk but I don't know which one I should use? Best ask here before I mess it up

If there's no built-in support for your network adapter you'll have to use another machine, internet connected, to find, download, tranfer to removable media and then load it on your crippled machine.

But I did.. I had SMart on then off (Right now its on) And I left that program running, Not sure if it replaces the old files or if it just edits them with a new date/time ?

Okay, thanks. It appends the existing files with new data. I think I remember seeing about 5 scans, an hour apart. About 5 hrs worth of data, so if about half the time you had it enabled and the other half disabled, we're good.

Would it help if I swap HD's? I have a 160GB in my old pc doing nothing. (thought I would have to reinstall windows 7)

That could pinpoint or rule out your drive as the problem.

I think you'll find it under DOS Programs...

I don't think anyone can really say.

As it says in the Clean Reinstall tutorial, put the network driver on a CD or stick to get online quickly to get your WIndows Updates. I thought you had read at least that much.

I think it's a good idea to swap in the other HD to (this time) do a perfect Clean Reinstall on it to see if the problem persists. How many times has it crashed since the latest reinstall on the same HD?

Did you ever try running the Samsung scan Essenbe linked in IDE mode in BIOS? Samsung says SeaTools is sufficient to determine condition of it's HD's so you may have to settle for that, but test installing to the other HD will resolve this for your purposes.

Did you confirm SMART status is Enabled in BIOS and has stayed Enabled, after Saving changes and Exiting?

@F5ing,

I see. The why I normally do it is "format,install network drives/audio,restart,windows updates"

Welcome :)

Sure I will do that some time later, I will do some more tests on this HD for now.

I hope we can find out soon :(

@gregrocker,
Sure, I will swap HD's later and do the clean install.. I must of missed that part but then I was reading at 7am in the morning with lack of sleep :3

SMART status is Enabled in BIOS, I do check it and it says Enabled

Here is what am going to do

1, Test F5ing iso
2,Go IDE and test Estools
3, Swap HDs (if needed after all the test)

Get plenty of rest and study the steps for reinstall first so you get it perfect. Ask back if you have any questions.

I was going to suggest installing to a test partition on the other HD when you mentioned it yesterday but thought it was still being used. If you want to keep its installation then before removing it from the machine shrink a test partition in Disk mgmt. Otherwise delete any partitions which are not needed when you do the booted install in the problem machine, create and format a new partition in that space.

MrUser01: I posted it as a reference for you. I would have included any download recommendations. You were following a fresh install path and loading the original drivers is a different trouble shooting path.

So as it stands, it is only an informational post. Swapping hard drives, when you get to that point, will give you some, pardon the pun, hard data on if the issue is drive related.

There's a lot of testing done before any one can tell what the underlying issue is on a machine. One the problem is identified, you'll be surprised how quickly it is resolved. Bear with the members helping you and follow the instructions very carefully to get to the solution faster. Post results so no one has to ask for them.

Most questions are answered in the link provided, especially if it points to a well tested tutorial. So read first, read it all, make all preparations necessary before committing and ask if you still have questions.

You're doing fine, a few hiccups, but overall things are going well.

Bill

@gregrocker,
I was just going to use the full HD as do it has nothing on there (Just windows 7 os)

Here is what I done step by step..

I went thought the Diskpart Command steps but when I was doing it, Windows said it could not start as do the drive was locked or something (Thought I was on the pc/desktop when doing this) So I did the "command prompt at boot." I did as followed "diskpark, seletct disk 0 etc... I did a "Clean all" took hours :/ Then after that I clicked on "Install now" I selcted my HD (which was showed as unallocated space) I clicked on it then I cliked next.. "Windows done its thing" So now am on the desktop (My disk has sp1 on it) noting installed sceen at 800x600.. I put in my disk installed Audio drives internt drives and ACHI drivers, After that I went to geforce and got my grafics card drivers (Thought it would save time and windows normally downloads a old verson) Installed that and restarted "Changed sceen to 1440x900" I then installed all (well not the langene ones) windows updates.. After that I installed the programs I needed..
And it still crashed xD

@Slartybart,
I will be sure to swap HD's for sure!
Hope we can find the program soon :(
Thanks Bill <3

@tlarseth,
Thanks and I know! But am also in college so that makes most/all of my time, And the days I get off I put 24,7 into my PC (But I do have little naps ^^) I just feel less sleep = more test = more results = getting closer = fix = Gaming all night!

Sorry about my spelling errors (and bold and colours) Am using IE as do my other pc (the one that crashs) is runing ESTools v3.01v from F5ing disk..
Its doing a Test Loop Number 1/1 So far passed a lot! Right now its on "Read Surface scan" Progress: 48.111% LBA: 1411344000] So I guess now is bed time and I will leave my pc on in the night... Will post back later with my results !

Much love

This is what you did earlier, correct?

When you install on the other HD, make sure to run Diskpart Clean (not Clean All) command, install only the network driver if it is missing after install so you can get online to do all IMportant and Optional Updates after enabling Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware.

Only after all Updates are done should you import any missing drivers, or the latest display driver if you are only given Standard VGA display driver.

If you have any questions please ask back.

Reviewing: The BSOD pointed to the HD, but Seatools passes it and SMART shows it is good. A Clean Reinstall doesn't solve the problem, so we're trying another HD next.

@gregrocker,

First thing tomorrow moring I will swap HDs :) And I will do step by step!

It does sound like Hardware issues, could be something on the main board, GPU, or HDD. I know if you have an explansion modem (PCI Modem (Dial-Up)), they are sometimes known to cause this issue. Try running with only minimal components in the computer if you have a modem or extra USB adapters on a PCI card.

OK my post corrected.

You've done a lot of good hard work in this thread, hopefully learned a lot. :geek:

Now rest and study up, take the time to get a perfect reinstall this time so we'll know for sure if it's the HDD. If not we need to look elsewhere.

@F5ing,
Here is your results:
2012_11_08_279.jpg

It passed :D

This was tested using ESTools v3.01v

Main menu:

And yes I did click it:
2012_11_08_273.jpg
*Before the scan*

@tlarseth,
I don't use no explansion modem I use the one which is built into my bored Ethernet cable.

Good times! :D But who says it needs to end?

@gregrocker,
Thank you <3

And yes I have, Back in the day I would just just any HD diagnostic tools eg tune up, I never thought every HD had its own oO
And yes today is the day I will swap HD's! When I get home..

Here is what am going to do (I best post them so you can check them)

1, Swap HDs
2, Boot into the new HD and go to Windows 7 instiller (Using the disk from Dell) open a CMD and do a "clean"
3, Click on install now
4, let it do its thing...
5, Get onto the desktop install network drivers?
6, restart
7, install windows 7 updates and wait
8, Post back here when all updates are done.

Some questions
1, Normally I use 64 bit dose that matter? This time should I use 32 bit?
2, Network drivers should I use my disk or download the ones from the site?

note: your images in post 95 aren't where the link points.

As long as you follow the Clean Install - Factory OEM Windows 7 tutorial you'll be fine.

The Clean Install Windows 7 tutorial is referenced by Greg's tut, pay attention to both. there's one thing I noticed that you didn't reference in your list of to-do. After you clean your drive - it is unallocated space, Click install now, and here's what I didn't see in your list
Click on custom install
select the drive
..... from the Clean Install tut
I'm not sure if Windows would just pick a drive for you.

And you have your network drivers already downloaded (also in the tut) - correct?

Run Windows update from Control Panel until there are no more updates offered.

If you previously used x64 - I'd use that again in this exercise.

As Greg mentioned - stuff on your disc is old when they ship it. If someone gave you the place to download the updated drivers, get those.

Take your time, make sure you read everything, don't assume anything. The tuts are basically step-by-step.

Do you mean the images are not showing? They are showing for me :3

Yes this time I will follow the tut word to word.. But I posted my steps just so gregrocker can get a feel of what am doing.. As do he can see thought my eyes :(

Of course that is how I normally do it via the custom menu (I thought that was the only way of doing it?) I have not tired the other option...

I only have them on my disk, But I will go to there site and download the newest ones I can find and put them on my usb to install them :)

custom menu? Control Panel? Some people let automatic updates do the work, and sometimes updates don't get installed due to the way people have it configured. So I emphasized using Windows update in the Control panel.

Some Answers
1. Use 64 bit
2. I would recommend using the ones that were on the drive to keep this as a controlled test environment.

What you are trying to do is set this drive up as close to the one you had in the computer earlier, this way we are only testing the physical drive and not the software.
