Post your 1st post

12/23/2009. It was sunny.

I have a desktop icon for opening CorelPaint Shop Pro Photo XI that has a yellow security sheild on it (not the case for 10 other program shortcuts). Executing the shortcut brings up an "Unknown Publisher" UAC warning. Not a show stopper but annoying as all get out. I have been playing with the Security properties for the shortcut and the exe file to get this to go away but no joy.
Does anyone have a step by step to stop this behavior?

Splash Screen Shenanigans
I have posted this to one other tech site but have had no luck with a resolution. While this is not earth shattering in it's importance , it does annoy me.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. It's an upgrade disc i got through Toshiba.
When I first turn on my computer, the little dot's come out to form the Windows flag on the splash screen and they "stutter". The first three come out , start to swirl then stop, hesitate for a second , start again , then stop....when the yellow(last) dot appears they all swirl a half turn stop again, then finish the swirl to form the pulsating windows flag. I don't notice anything "wrong" with the way 7 runs after that. (Windows 7 is a dream!)
It happened the first time i installed the upgrade and every single time since. It happens if i do a upgrade OR a clean install. (I've probably installed/upgraded 3 or 4 times since I got it last December)

I've ran the system file checker from the command line (sfc/scannow) and all that did was to change my start button back to the default. I've since changed it back, but i can't help but think that somethings just not right.
Could this be a "fault" with the disc itself? Everything seems to run great after I log in. It's more "head scratcher" than anything else but still........

Anyway, any advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I m new here. In trouble and need your help guys! I installed windows xp sp2 in virtual pc, but when integrated, it plays video v e r y . . . slowly. The machine is also slow, too. Any solution?
using Asus m2n mx se plus motherboard, amd athlon x64 processor and 2 gb ram. Is it to install the dislay driver? please help me.
Actually I haven't installed VMWare tools. I did not know that there is something like that :o

Three things you must notice here , and it will make it crystal clear to you who am I actually :p

  • The first sentence I posted contains a typo ;
  • The first reply to the thread is after seven months of the post ; and
  • The thread is a miniature riot :p
During the search, I got a bit nostalgic. Found some info of my past which I want to suppress and forget, so edited two three posts (You please forgive me) .

And , one thing I also found ... why I am ever grateful to Uber Philf .

There are none that do what you would like it to do atm, maybe u can have a chat to one of our fine members sporting the Dark Purple "GFX" badge, and see if they can make you something more to your liking.
That post made me greedy ... if one day I can be a fine member :o

On January 31, 2010 I wrote in "Need Advise on Laptop"

try for either a 13" or a 15", then just plug into a display when needed.
Heck, depending on what you need you could probably use a netbook with A Nvidia Ion chipset or a ULV Intel processor with dedicated graphics, then have an office set up with the necessary accessories.
just something to consider
Example:
Asus Eee with Ion: $484
2x2GB (4gb) ram kit: $90 (the specs say that this netbook can support 4gb)
Seagate 500gb 7200rpm 2.5 inch (I THINK that's what is inside the Asus): $108
slim lightscribe BD/DVD drive: $126
HP 20" display: $142
Logiteech wireless mouse/keyboard: $38
total: $988 (ish)

MY first computer was a Commodore-64 with a cassette tape drive in April 1983. I got the game Monopoly on tape & that was first game I ever played on a computer. My favorite game on it was "The Sword of Fargoal" :geek: I used a M$ dos program for the past 21 years in my business. I just recently had to upgrade it to a WinXp version as the software company is no longer supporting M$ dos. I have used just about every version of Windows on different computers in the past 25 years.

Britton, I believe Golden means 3rd of November 2011, as is of course more logical (day - month - year) and not 11th of March. It's your strange American way to put day and month in wrong order that causes confusion here :)

I thought it was the rest of the world that was odd. :sarc:
Of course the government and our military us the format like this: 05 AUG 12.
