So as I let my new cooler settle for a few days (still haven't added better fans yet) I got the itch to play again. As you have seen I have managed a few good OC's but had to use intel extreme tuning to add some volts. I was thinking, well now that I have a better psu and cooler maybe I will have better luck going straight bios. Before the upgrades 4.6 was pretty much it going straight bios. So now I tried again, 4.7 worked then 4.8 booted but the had the dreaded explorer stopped responding.

Then I tried going with just the msi software (control center) but no intel tuning. Last try before the upgrades I hit 4.9 but 5.0 was not happening, so I resorted to the Intel software. This time without the intel software 5.0 worked , then 5.1 worked. kept going 5.2 and 5.3 worked.

I'm all excited tried 5.4 and it ran, tried to validate but crashed.

Unlucky Doug, you aiming to take 2nd place from me ain't ya lol.

I just wanted to get 5.4 but it isn't there for me. Guess I need a I7 to get more. I will hold out with the I5 and try it with a better motherboard first.

It won't be the fact of i5 vs i7 mate, it will just be the luck of the draw on how strong the cpu is, as you know some will go higher than others in i5's and i7's. The motherboard could certainly play a big part though.

Boards play a big part in OC potential in my experience. As example I have a AMD PhenomX6 which would not do well on a Gigabyte board I have with a AMD 770 chipset. I made a new build with an ASUS board and a AMD 880 chipset and I managed to OC the same CPU to 4.2, I think it was.

It surprised me just how much difference a good psu makes to an oc too. Since swapping from my AX850 to the psu i have now my cpu oc's run atleast 100Mhz higher at a certain vcore than before.

well here is a Haswell Guide maybe you can get it to do some more Haswell Overclocking Thread [With Statistics]

I did read that article, I think ill be deliding the cpu to try it out, looks like a 20 degrees in temp drop, pretty good.

Nice overclock for Haswell. Can you keep it cool there?

Y'a, never goes up 76 in some pretty heavy bench's .

I would like to add my overclock but I am not sure where to post it. It seems here is the best place. I did as the instructions specified and validated with my forum name, I am posting a pic and the link.

CPU-Z Validator 4.0

Does this somehow count towards that overclockers board in the other thread? And if so, how would I get my name on there if my OC is high enough to earn a spot on it?
