We've all been there and will be there again.

It's in our nature. And I need to overclock something now.

I'm using a modded bios with my two 7850's. It works like a charm, and there were very little chances of bricking the cards, since they have a dual bios chip. If something went wrong I could have switched to the secondary bios and reflash the primary with the one I'd saved. So if your cards have dual bios, I'd think it is not very risky to try a modded one.

I'm afraid I'm becoming an OC junky too! And since I'm such a noob (basically ignorant) I do things without much regard for involved risks. So far I haven't bricked or fried anything (fingers crossed).
Ignorance is bliss some times, or so my GF tells me!

Did you notice much performance difference after the BIOS mod? I've got a 7850 as well so I'm tempted. I tried to OC the card but I never managed to get it stable and it made my display cut to a grey screen so much.

Before the modded BIOS I was able to OC my cards to core:1150, mem: 1350, fully stable. That was using Sapphire Trixx with voltage control, and setting the voltage to 1.21V. The limit was 1.225.
With the modded bios and using MSI Afterburner I've reached core:1275, mem: 1475, fully stable at 1.256V, but the cards reach 69ºC really fast. They stay there, but it is a huge increase compared to the 62 I was getting with my previous OC.
To be honest, the only difference I notice is in benchmarks. Gaming wise, they ran great with my previous OC and they run great with the new one. Very difficult to tell the difference.
What OC tool are you using with your 7850? Does it have voltage control? If so, and you've upped the voltage and still can't get it stable, maybe I just wouldn't bother with a modded BIOS. Maybe your card has a limited OC headroom.

I have a Gigabyte card but use ASUS GPU Tweak. Yeah I upped the core, memory and voltage but it crashed as soon as I ran a GPU accelerated program. A BIOS mod doesn't sound very promising for me so I might not do it after all. It's a great card, even at stock speeds, so maybe I shouldn't fiddle with it when I'm happy with it as it is

They are great cards indeed. I'm very happy with mine. So happy I have just upgraded to twin 7870s. Will have to run some benchmarks to see if they are as good as the 7850s.

Have you checked with GPU-Z or any other tool that the voltages were actually changed? I tried GPU Tweak with my cards, it allowed me to change voltages, but when I checked with other tools they were unchanged. On the other hand Sapphire Trixx worked just fine. Give it, or Afterburner, a try.

Not stable but I know for a fact now I could hit that 5Ghz with a 1.5 v but honestly don't see how worth it is

I think im happy at 4.8 ghz now ran [email protected] max temps 47c socket temp 46c

I tried changing my clocks again but it seems off idk not sure, i have voltage on auto but it puts it at 1.5v . Trying to achive 3.7Ghz on this althon ii 640 x4, um use to have 3.6 but forgot what settings i had for it since i reset it by accident. Any help is appreciated. Let me know if something is too high or too low. Btw i have cool n quiet enabled too. Trying to keep this as stable as possible. Or is it totally fine how I set it up so far?

NVM keep failing prime95 worker #3 always seems to stop after a bit and geting blue screen with a memory error when running blend. Anyways set everything to stock for the moment. Would like some tips so i can keep testing it to see if i can keep it stable at 3.7, have heard of my chip going up to 3.8-3.9 stable before. Hmm probably should make a thread for this. Probably going to do so in a bit possibly.

Miguel want a 925 Deneb ? it's just sitting in my drawer I don't need it I have a 965be in a rig upstairs

8120 in my back up rig and my current 8350 that chip will probably do you some justice

Played around with the cpu clocks for the phenom ii 925 x4 that solar gave me generously, was able to get it from 2.8 to 3.4Ghz while keeping it stable. Anything Higher and the system crashes when put under stress. Had it at 3.2 for a while and ran good but wanted to see if I could get more juice out of it. This is all running at stock voltage and runs great. Runs a lot better then my old althon cpu .

I could have gotten that chip to 3.5 but it would be pushing it and back then I had a Biostar T series board AM2+ that one is currently running a 965be with 8 gigs of ram that was my first AMD gaming build from 4 years ago
