problems start AFTER i restart computer to install updates

• usually I put off having to restart my computer, for as long as I can, or until something stops working in order to force a restart
• most of the time, my computer gets real laggy; recently, it refused to connect to our house wifi until I installed the updates.
• this time, it didn't give me any problems until AFTER i hit "restart.
• it's been laggy for the past 3 days
• I'm not getting any sound

• and this chrome extension called "GoSave" keeps coming back. i remove it, but every time i have to restart my computer, there it is again.

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM Premium' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Quarantine everything it finds

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Also, post the C:\Windows\Windowsupdate.log file

GoSave issues: followed directions for Update Posting: now what?

I had issues with a chrome extension called "GoSave" that kept popping up, and was told to run anti-malware, and then go to the Windows Update Posting Instructions. The anti-malware found things, which I deleted. But during the time I took to follow the WUP instructions, some kind of webpage kept spontaneously opening itself at random times. But the scans that the Update ran found absolutely nothing, although I can say that the webpage hasn't opened itself since about a half hour ago. So while there is no upload of "error codes from step #3", but there is a copy of my zip file.

As you found, neither SFC nor CheckSUR found any problems.

It sounds as if you still have some infection present - there is a particularly nasty POS doing the rounds at the moment, which needs a lot of TLC to root out.

update: I ran SuperAntiSpyware, and holy f!#$% did it find stuff. Apparently I had cookies up the wazoo. It seems to be running okay now, and GoSave is no longer in my extensions. Thank you!

Cookies are usually nothing to worry about - they are mostly harmless text files. Some cleaners ignore them altogether, while some delete them all.
SAS appears to search fpr specific known adware cookies, which is probably a happy medium
