Problems with recovery

If you have the Win7 DVD, use it Recovery Options.

As Greg said in the post above, using the Windows 7 DVD or Startup Repair CD, will sometimes work better, as the installed Windows is offline.

Dear theog,
I have the system repair disk! I manually create a restore point before any driver upgrade or install. I religiously take Mac-Ref B & R! I have 17% of C:drive allocated for restore points!

Well I thought I had done that when I loaded Windows 7, and found that I didn't turn on that system protection, and now can't

When I boot, I'm not presented with a F8 option - only F2 or F12. F2 takes me to CMOS, F12 tkaes me to the selection of boot selection of CD drive or Hard drive.


I think I'll try creating system repair disk next, then Repair Install.

When you have dysfunction like this with Recovery options like System Restore, it is best to run them from the Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD.

If it doesn't find Restore Points in a dysfunctional Win7 System Restore utility or can't restore or even start System Restore, it could do so from the DVD/CD. I would not even take F8 Repair Console as the last word since it is running files from Win7 which could be corrupt or infected.

You will need the Win7 Installation DVD for your version to do a Repair Install. The Repair CD only provides the Recovery options shown here: System Recovery Options
