Punkbuster fix

Ok I've been messing with punkbuster for a few days. Im using windows 7 x64. I just ran the updater then when into the registry and changed the "Type REG_DWORD" from a 1 to 110 on PnkBstrB. I have been playing for the last three hours without getting kicked this was with BF 2142. I need some others to test this and see if it works for them too.

ok, umm unless this just happend..
like last week or the week before, i installed all updated
win 7 32
and 64
and battlefield 2142 still did not work..
battlefield 2 did not work..
PLEASE DONT BE CONFUSED COD4 IS NOT BATTLEFILED 2142 or BATTLEFIELD 2,
DIFFRENT GAME DIFFRENT ETC ETC../

yes cod4 or 5 may work...COD 4 worked on every instannce of win 7 i ever tested..
myself, i dont use vm, so its a fresh install on a new formatted partishion off a cd burned..
its long process for me to install win 7 again format etc etc..

last i checked, rc1, nothing worked, that was one week ago or two..
what has changed to make it work properly?

ive done the folowing up till last week when i removed it, and went back to build 7000, which currently runs battlefield 2142 and all punkbuster games just fine..

what i tried, tooo0iooo0o0o0o0o0o0o0 many things..
the registry edit..
running every instance of punkbuster a and b services with all the options given available, everything, any os compatability etc etc.. nothing worked at all, what so ever to get it to work.
disable themes ..right that made no diffrence..
yes game and pb updated to the newest client etc etc...
admin rights..no change..
no windows updates available all downlaoded...
no driver updates..all downloaded via windows 7 ..
then i removed all of them drivers and tried vista drivers with vista compatability..
did not work..
tried it over and over and back again ..not working..
tried it on 32 64 etc etc...did not work..
someone please tell me what has changed in the last week to get this to work properly???
other weise im not going to format and reinstall win 7 rc again to find out its exctaly the same as it was before...

COD4 may work..so what..what about battlefield? any of them work?
does BATTLEFIELD 2, 2142, WORK???.

well, COD2 works confirmed from me on PB enabled servers. So if its going to work on COD2 i dont care if its COD25, if it uses PB its all the same.

As for me, actually unticked interact with desktop for Pb A, and PB B would never save that setting, so i double check and it was still left unticked. moved the pbsetup.exe to C:\PB chose my COD2 game and updated, worked fine. Note i also did this exact same thing, with the exception of leaving interact w/desktop unchecked, and it didnt work Last Week at all, same ole errors that I had been seeing since 7000 (jan).

I was unable to play BF2 and BF2142 on beta build 7000 and 7100 started messing with it again a few days ago. I was unable to run my games until I did the following below. I hope this works for you guys. I tried everything I could think of to install and run my games. None of the web fixes or work arounds I found worked for me

1. Place your game disk in your cd/dvd drive once it loads Don't choose the auto install instead open the folder to view the files using windows explorer.
2. Once the folder opens look for the game's Setup application. Right click on it and choose properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and check Run this program in Compatibility for Windows XP SP3. Also check mark the box for run this program as an administrator. Click Apply then ok.
3. Now double Click on Setup and install your game.
4. Once the game installs Click on Compatibility and check Run this program in Compatibility for Windows XP SP3. Also check mark the box for run this program as an administrator Click Apply then ok.
5. If your patching the game do the same thing again for the patch. Right click on the Setup for the patch and choose properties. Click on Compatibility and check Run this program in Compatibility for Windows XP SP3. Also check mark the box for run this program as an administrator Click Apply then ok. Then double click and install the patch.
6. Go to Evenbalnce and downloaded the pbsetup. Create a folder on your desktop and name it whatever you want. Once it's extracted do # 2 & 3 again. Right click on pbsetup and choose properties. Click on Compatibility and check Run this program in Compatibility for Windows XP SP3. Also check mark the box for run this program as an administrator Click Apply then ok. Then install PB by double clicking and install the patch.
7. Once PB loads add your games and upload any new updates for them. Don't do anything else for PB. I didnt !
8. Try running your games and see what happens. Following these steps is the only way I got my games to work without getting kicked out of the servers with a API error(s) I've been playing for two days now without any problems.

I now will follow this procedure for every thing I will install on my PC while using Windows 7. I had probs installing my bluetooth dongle today until I did the above for the setup application it worked again

Yes I have to agree I have tried Mdttb's steps on another machine and it works great use those steps instead of what I posted earlier.

Unfortunatelly, it still doesn't work for me.
I followed Mdttb's steps, but when I launch the game, it kicks me after a few seconds/minutes.
Maybe, it's because I use an external client for CoD4...
(I use Windows 7 RC1 64bit + Call of Duty 4 with the newest PB)

thats what I'm saying.... i know i'm on x86 and things could be different possibly for x64, but as far as i am concerned i did nothing "special" to "trick" PB into working. I even turned off interactive desktop for PnkbstrA, which i had turned on previously before the newest update. thats it, no run as admin, not messing about with anything PB other than updating. Still havent been kicked, played once over the weekend for over 2.5 hours (was suprised i stayed connected to internet that long, let alone getting kicked by PB)

Same here, applied no fixes, just updated Punk Buster and updated my drivers and there's no problem.

OK, it's true. Without any fixes, and update the punk buster with pbsetup, it's works at least in CoD4. The value in the registry returned back to original value and the game works
Punkbuster has update its sw, although they say that don't give support to win7

In COD 2 it depends on the server's configuration, if the server PB up to date then you will able to play without any API error message. Perhaps better if you update your client PB too.
Because PB updated the Master server configs not the client one.
So try other servers or write me and i give 4 you a IP.
If it not help maybe I h got another tip.

downloaded PBSVC, set it to XP compatibility mode, then let it install the PB services.
