Random BSOD while general computing

had two a couple days apart, no apparent cause. Fresh install of windows 7 ultimate


Edit: due to past experience I ran windows memory diagnostics and it came back clean.

I also cleaned about 112 PUP's off, that my friend put on here.

Well, I'll work under that assumption and get this back to her. I changed the power settings around, though I couldn't get it to blue screen while I had it so I have no idea what it could be. If anyone does run through those and see a reason for the BSOD let me know.

The two dumps indicate a 0x7A - 185 which is a disk subsystem failure. This could be caused by power faults (internal or external). Make sure your battery is fully charged and use the AC adapter for extended use periods.

You might run a chkdsk to verify the file system is intact. The check will not run on the C: drive until you reboot. Also, use the AC adapter during this run. It cannot be interrupted. After that, run SFC /scannow to make sure the system drivers aren't corrupt. Pay particular attention to the rerun and reboot note if you receive errors on SFC.

No unless you actually use its features. You should also use type this in cmd to check your SMART status:

WMIC

then

diskdrive get status

It should only display OKs if your SMART status is ok. If not, you should backup and get a new system drive. On a side note, why did your friend put on PUPs on you pc?

It's not mine, it's hers. I couldn't get it to bluescreen and was at wits end so I came here. I'll check the smart data and share the results.

yeah, I had done a fresh install since she had damaged the last one (took her 2 years) and within 5 days she had 112.

Sfc /scannow is hanging at 17% before failing with the message "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation". I am running this command in an elevated CMD window.

Yeah, but it only ran for a couple of seconds, so I'm running it again, it's been going for about 5-8 minutes now.

at stage 4 it replaced a couple of bad clusters, so we will see what sfc does next time I run it.

So, the chkdsk replaced that(those) file(s) and then sfc ran through with no problems.

Keep us posted if you get more BSODs and upload any new ones along with a fresh SF Diagnostic Utility run.

Will do. I'm going to get it back to her tomorrow (well, today as I write this) but I'm sure I'll be the first to know if it has any more issues.

For the life of me I couldn't get it to do anything funny, so I hope it's fixed for a little while.
