Random BSOD, x124

I have a Dell Inspiron 620 that keeps getting random BSOD's x124. The original configuration was an i7-2600, 4GB Ram, 500GB hdd. It has always given me the same BSOD, but I planned on upgrading it anyways and figured the BSOD was hardware related. I added a Gtx 550 ti, OCZ ModXStream 600w PSU, Samsung 830 SSD and 8gb of ram. Along the way, I still have the BSOD problem.

I have reinstalled windows 7 x64 about 5 times, including once from a usb key that dell sent me. I have returned the computer back to stock specs, and still have the BSOD. Dell keeps looking at software, but everything I see online points to a hardware issue.

The BSOD is completely random and has never happened under load. Sometimes it will do it 3x in one day, sometimes it's a week or two between crashes. I have not been able to replicate the BSOD.

The crash dumps are attached.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

All of your dump files are pointing towards hardware. So follow the following steps:

BugCheck 0x124

   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. :warn:WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For your hardware stop 0x124 crash, read through http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/35349-stop-0x124-what-means-what-try.html and use the following hardware checks to supplement that link.

  • If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

  • If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:
    • SSD firmware
    • BIOS Version
    • Chipset Drivers
    • Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
    • If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

  • Run all but the advanced tests with SeaTools for HDDs.
  • Monitor temperatures during the following tests.
Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.

  • Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:
    1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
    2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
    3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
    4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

I ran all the test and did not find an error or replicate the blue screen. I have been working with Dell and they think it is a software conflict, they removed Team Viewer and it has not happened since (two days ago).

I'm not satisfied that it is a software problem since everything I have read points to hardware. I have had a different PSU, RAM and Video Card in the computer and it blue screened in every configuration. To me, this points to either the CPU or MOBO.

Am I on the right path or could this indeed be software related?

Even though even what I read it points to hardware, sometimes the crash files could be wrong and think there is hardware problem, and it could be software. But just give it some time and see if it was a software conflict..

Sorry to go back to an old thread, but I have been working with Dell to get this resolved and have not gotten anywhere. Dell replaced the motherboard yesterday and it blue screened shortly after. I decided to do a vanilla install of Windows 7 and it blue screened againg during the first program I installed (Microsoft Flight Sim). I have attached the crash dump from the vanilla install, the only think I can fault is the processor this point. Could somebody take a look at this dump and let me know what you think?

I have stress tested everything and have not been able to find a cause. I have replaced the video card (both a HD6770 & GTX550ti), PSU, RAM and HDD, it has blue screened in every configuration.

Thanks!

Do you have the latest chipset drivers installed? and yes it does seem like the processor's at fault.

Thanks for getting back to me. All of the drivers are up to date, the system is running Win 7, not Vista. Do you see anything else that could be the fault or is it definitely the processor?

Yes, its still under warranty. I have been working with Dell for almost two months now and they can't seem to figure out the issue. It's the same bsod every time.

Thats good, and I do not want to suggest you further tests as that may void your warranty.

Get the CPU replaced and come back and update this thread if you can.
