Recover data from hard disk.

I have problem with my hard disk's chip of my laptop. How do i recover all datas from it.

You've not exactly explained the situation very well.
are you saying the laptop is broken or the hard drive itself. "hard discs chip" doesn't mean anything in any lingo lol.

if its the laptop at fault you can buy a usb 2.5" caddy place the hard drive in it and use another computer to recover all of your data and files.

if the hard drive has failed and no longer works, theres little you can do. you could try a caddy like above, placing it in the freezer is an old trick to gain a small amount of life from a dying drive.

I dont mean to go on.. but this is why EVERYONE should back up their data regularly. harddrive failures shouldnt result in manic.. it should be "oh well its all safe on another drive/disc/flash drive" ect

thanks for your comment Badger, ... But i want to clear my problem. My harddisks chip has got a problem. I have heard we can change its chip and the disk will work fine. But getting compatible chip is difficult.
What i want to do is recover datas from this disk into another hard disk. How do i do it ?

If I read correctly, you have a bad hard drive (the standard spinning platter type) and you think it is the Controller Board inside the hard drive that has gone bad and you want to know how to replace it?

yes TvElven, you are absolutely right. Its the controller board on the top of hard drive, that has got problem. And i want to recover datas from the discs inside the drive.

What many folks do is buy a used drive with the exact same model number and switch out the controller boards. Depending on the age of the drive, this can be much cheaper than buying a replacement controller board.

Your results, of course, will depend on whether it is the controller board that is at fault, and not a head problem or something else.

It's doubtful a 2.5" drive has a controller board that is removable, they are sometime part of the assembly.
What, exactly, is the drive doing/not doing?? "Having a problem" is not descriptive.

ok, when i run my laptop it cannot load the OS ,and message displays "no operating system found".

First,I tried to configure BIOS , if harddisk is disabled. But it is not . It do not show my hard disk.

Next, i took out the hard disk from my laptop and used it as a usb hard disk using a cache of usb hard disk. Even it didnt detect my hard disk.

I can easily run my laptop using live CD of Ubuntu.

Another test you can do is connect the problem hard disk to a desktop PC using the SATA connectors. See if it is recognized there. That will eliminate any USB connection issues.

To answer your question - If the disk cannot be read, you cannot recover the data with normal means. A specialized company may be able, but that is too expensive.

Try to get it with the live Ubuntu CD. Maybe it is not a physical problem but some Windows specific problem.

yes i tried to connect with sata cable of desktop, but nothing worked out.
I can only hear the disk spinning.

Can replacing its board solve my problem?
Or am i at loss?

Hard to say. I just have a 2.5" HDD in my hands. Replacing the board is not obvious to me. But maybe there is some video on Youtube that shows how it's done.

Try and ignore the sales pitch in this video. They want you to buy a new replacement board from them.

Thanks EVeblen , well, i today showed that drive to technical personal and he quoted ' disk are spinning very smooth and i dont feel any burnings in the chip board. I guess it can be easily fixed by media recovery. '

I hope that will fix my problem. But replacing the 3.0 gbps board of 750 gb is gonna cost me equals a brand new drive.

Will recover is gonna solve it. Reply please.

Don't pay any money until you actually see your data. Feeling and listening to a drive is no indication of anything.

In order to recover data from the hard drive it has to be 'seen' or recognized on some system. If you can't get a desktop computer to see the drive when connected directly then there is nothing that can be done with it as it is.

You could try and replace the controller board, but this only makes sense if you can buy the exact same model of hard drive on EBay or similar for $5 or $10.
The reason for this is that there is only a small possibility this will fix it so it can be recognized. There are other things that could be wrong with the drive.
You do this only because you need the data off the drive and before you pay hundreds of dollars to have a data recovery company get it.

This is a bad time to tell you that you should have backups of your data. But that is why we always tell people they need it - because this kind of thing happens often enough.
