Auslogics Regdefrag works on 7048 x64. :D

Surprised how little defragging was needed - only 3% fragmented according to the app.

Tried it with separate System and Boot partitions and with the Boot partition also set as System .

No problem with either.

I used the earlier free version v5.0.17.435.

Sadly, it is no longer free - trial version available.

Auslogics Products

Also tried with the free Glary regdefrag and Quicksys regdefrag - neither work with 7, though both work well with Vista.

And by "does not work" means you best know how to recover your registry, because you will not be able to boot into windows 7 if you try one of those.

My advise to anyone with windows 7 is stear clear of registry cleaners/defraggers. The only one I trust right now is ccleaner.

I used it on my XP and Vista Ultimate ... it worked fine for a number of months, then it didn't! I ended up re-installing both OS's :o

Be oh so very careful using these types of applications.

Hi,

Everyone's system is different - any app. may behave unpredictably.

Someone posted today they had major problems with Paragon Drive backup - never come across that before.

It just goes to show, always keep a recent backup image.

Yes i have had the pleasure of restoring my registry in windows 7 thanks to those programs, but at least they make backups.

Oh turns out i used an older version of Quicksys regdefrag, the latest version of their defrag and regcleaner state they support windows 7. I will have to put that statement to test later.

Hi Yup Yup,

I used Quicksys Regdefrag v2.3 - which I think is the new one.

Couldn't boot back in. Let me know how you get on with it.

Do you know of a way to restore the registry from the WinRe command line?

There is no one stop magic registry restore command that i know of, i just delete the registry files and replace them with the backups.

I'm just installing regdefrag 2.3 now, i'll let you know the results in a bit.

Ok finished and the results are that version 2.3 locks up on the analyze, saves me from doing the restore anyway.:)

Hi Yup Yup,

Don't know why they claim it works on 7.

Maybe installing it in Compat. mode for Vista SP1 and giving it Run as admin on the setup.exe would make a difference? I see no mention of it on their site.

There was a way of restoring the Registry from WinRe in XP

How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting

Don't think there's anything similar for Vista\7.

Sorry i thought you were looking for a single command to restore the registry. The commands for the manual method in that guide still apply to vista and windows 7. The "guided help" executable does not apply to vista and windows 7 because you can you use restore points in WinRe where the XP recovery console could not.

Hi crstfr,

I just tried Desktop Maestro 2 from PC Tools - the reg. compactor on that worked fine - even across drives. It is the same module as in the app. you used.
