Most imaging programs do the same sort of job.
Have you got the sick disk attached in your desktop ?
Do you already have an imaging program in your desktop operating system ?

@SIW2, Yes, I got one hdd 1 tb, was an old windows on it, want to format it now. This will be backup hdd. I have instaled EaseUs Partiton Master and I guess I saw something about backup on it.

I think it wants you to download a separate easeus program called todo which does images.

If there are damaged sectors it might cause difficulty for some image methods.

I usually make wim format images, but I am not sure how well that works with bad sectors.

wim is an archive formatwith .wim extension

like install.wim or backup.wim

It is a useful format because it can handled by windows as well as by other free programs like 7-zip.

like this:

backupwim1.jpg

it is file based, but I am not sure if it will cope well with files damaged because they are on bad sectors.

Possibly the easeus todo imaging program will have something that can be ticked to skip bad sectors.

My suggestion is to install Macrium Reflect free and drag and drop the J: partition to the HDD save Data.

For the I: partition I would:
- create a partition on the HDD save Data remaining space
- Boot the computer using your Linux usb drive and copy \Users"Name" folder to the partition created above.

megahertz has suggested cloning partition j to disk 1.

give it a try. If there are damaged sectors on the source partition J it might stop, but no harm done because the source has not been affected by the attempt to clone.

Or you could try diskgenius, just rt click J and select clone partition then point it at HDD SAVE DATA G.

If that doesn't work :

you could clone the partition(s) or the entire disk using COPY SECTORS which is is specially designed for cloning hard drive with bad sectors Copy Sectors - DiskGenius

you could do either clone or image.

Because your hhd save data disk is big enough you might as well try clone. Depending on what the damage is, you might be able to fix the clone and get it to boot.

Hi sabrina,

Your laptop HDD is dead. Riddled with bad sectors, it did not boot. Imaging or cloning it to another HDD/SSD will not help. Can you bring a dead man alive even if you transplant the heart and brain?? So forget about it.

Cloning or imaging as recommended by Megahertz07 and SIW2 is only for recovering data and not restoring the HDD or its clone to make it bootable. You are only wasting your time and wasting others time!

@jumanji, hello, you said you will help me with diskcheck, or what was the name of that program. Today I will clone partition J with Macrium, how Megahertz07 said, but I dont understand when to create a partition on the HDD save Data, for partition I, like Megahertz07 said in his last post. After can you help me with what you said? And so sorry if I waste your time, isnt my intention to do that :(

Forget about imaging.
Forget about cloning.
Forget about Total commander.
Forget about Macrium Reflect.
Work on Data recovery.
Now answer this question.
Can you see and access the data in J: next to the RAW partition I: ? Answer yes or no.
If your answer is yes, copy all data in that partition to the 1TB HDD G:

If you have to go to your work, go.

When you return . you will find the instruction set to run TestDisk.

I had already asked you to read through the following threads

We will be doing exactly that.

Use Windows explorer. Can you not copy from J: to G: ?

We will as I said use TestDisk to ascertain the status of the RAW Partition I: and try to recover the data if possible. We will know only when we run TestDisk.

I can copy from J to G, thats why I ask if just simple copy/paste or use some program to avoid errors or interruptions when copying

Simple copy will do. But do it in batches. Select only a few files/folders at a time, right click and drag it to G:, release the rightclick and you will get a menu. Choose "copy here" ( Do not click on "Move here"). I know that it is going to take time but that is the safest way. Please note down which files /folders you have selected and copied. If later you find that some haven't been copied, you can copy again. Never do a "Move"
