Trying to do very similar thing and having same result
I have a dual boot between Windows 7 on one side and XP Pro on the other. I'm communicating with another XP machine. When I connect from the XP side of my dual boot machine I get the dialog box asking for user name and password. I enter it and everything is fine.
When I try connecting from the Windows 7 side I never get asked for user name and password. I just get told I can't do this.
