I have a HP Pavillion DV6, Windows 7 sp1, 4GB ram and 64bit. I have been unable to install from windows update KB2668562 (or separately) and have followed all the google and microsoft suggestions.

So I uninstalled Silverlight completely to try and reinstall. (Silverlight was installed OK prior to the above). I immediately get Error ID 1622 as soon as the silverlight exe has unpacked itself. I even tried right clicking and running as administrator, I have taken control of all the temp files and they all exist. Temp files are always cleared. The problem seems that it cannot write a log file. So having checked all the usual suspects, has anyone got any other ideas. M

Absolutely spot on. I used the first option.

I was able to correct the problem by changing the (user) %TEMP% environment variable back to c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Temp.

I always put my temp folder in C:\Temp so I can see what is happening. And Silverlight works this way on my Win 7 32bit computers, funny it didnt like it on my 64bit Win 7 HP laptop. Anyway good find and thanks.

The funny thing is that this solved my 64bit laptop. BUT all of my desktops using 32bit version of W7 have the %temp% resolved to C:\ and they dont have trouble with silverlight. Anyway a good result.
