So my XPS caught fire and my mom gave me her old computer as she got a new one.

i threw some good parts from my XPS into this Dimention 8400 so it has better specs to run windows 7.

3GB of ram and my X800XT radeon videocard and the 3.0GHz HT 64 bit processor

Now i installed windows 7 32 bit ultimate from my XPS and it takes 20 seconds to get to the logon screen, but after that once you log in the "Loading" screen takes 3-6 mins along with once the desktop shows up it takes another 5 mins or so to even press the start button and bring the start menu up, 45 seconds to 2 mins to bring the internet up and this is a FRESH install, as of like....20 mins from this post it finished installing. not even activated yet.

Score is a 4.0 so im sure it can run fine. http://i55.tinypic.com/34g8qs8.jpg

Now i just don't understand how it can be SO slow, and it's only happened with windows 7, im tmpted to install XP or Linux now because 7 runs so horrible, and the stats for the computer are fine.

Create a boot log in msconfig>Boot so you can see what driver is hanging.

Check also the Performance log on Advanced Tools page accessed by clicking the link next to your WEI score. Generate a System Health Report and look for issues cued on that page.

Google repeat errors in Performance log and in Event Viewer>Admin View.

NDProxy is a network driver. Do you have an extra wireless software package running on top of Win7's superior wireless utility? If so, uninstall it, install only the driver from Device Manager, then connect in bottom-right system tray. Otherwise update or reinstall your wireless driver.

Did you study your logs given to google repeat errors to learn more about them and how their issues are solved? You have to be pro-active going after these errors to troubleshoot them correctly.

Tokioh,

You might be able to gather a clue using the event viewer. In the procedure that follows, by clicking on the Details tab you will see more info.

BOOT AND SHUTDOWN PERFORMANCE

How to use Event Viewer to view your Boot and Shutdown Performance

WIN key | type EVENTVWR.MSC | ENTER key

First wait for the Event Viewer to be populated-watch the Summary of Administrative Events section.

Now, using the left-hand pane tunnel down as follows:
Applications and services logs | Microsoft | Windows | Diagnostics-Performance | Operational

Right-click on Operational.

In the top-section of the middle pane, various events are listed.

Click on EventID to sort the events from smallest to largest.

EventID 100 is for Boot Performance.
EventID 200 is for Shutdown Performance

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
Checked that, the most i got was something i did on my part of shutting down the computer too fast because it takes 7-10 mins to shut down. can't be a software issue from stuff i have installed because it has done this on the past 4 installs.

Got something about bonjour service taking longer then 2 mins to respond but i installed itunes after this problem started. and as for the network controller that's for my old SWL samsung wireless card, it even did this before that was installed on a LAN network.

As an experiment boot into safe mode and then shutdown.

I'll bet the shutdown is faster.

Check your startup items in MSCONFIG-> Startup tab. Uncheck everything except the antivirus and touchpad, then reboot and see if that makes a difference.

Soluto can also help identify what processes are taking up time at boot.

Hello Tokioh.

Quite a few people have issue with the "bonjour service" though I have not used it, I have seen it suggested to disable the service and the issue will cease.

Here's a nice little guide to go along with what Bill suggested above.

It could well be software if you're installing the same software over and over. Bonjour should go, use Soluto which sorts them nicely. Have you googled all repeat errors in Event Viewer>Admin and Performance logs to resolve them?
