Sony Vaio (SVS131290X) hotkey problem with Win 7

Hi,

a couple of weeks ago I got my new Sony Vaio Notebook which had Win 8 on it.
After A while I started hating the OS and installed Win 7 Pro 64bit.
I have installed all the Sony Vaio drivers besides 2 important packages (Hotkey utilities & firmware extension parser). These two packages could not be installed. I get an error that says "This update is not inteded for use with your computer model".

The funny thing is that I chose Windows 7 64bit Software from the download page so it actually must work.
I also tried the Win 8 packages but they also didn't help

Can somebody help me?
Is it a Vaio or a Windows 7 issue???

Hello Andrew and welcome to Seven Forums.

Couple of questions just to clarify some things.

1. Are you now dual booting Windows 7 and Windows 8 or did you uninstall Windows 8?

2. Is your Vaio using UEFI? If yes, I'm not sure if that would have a bearing on installing Windows 7 as a dual boot.

3. From where did you obtain the hotkey utilities & firmware extension parser? (Are these Vaio utilities or some other 3rd party software?)

thank you for your reply.

1. I did uninstall Windows 8 completly and made a clean Windows 7 installation.

2. Yes it is using UEFI, but I put it in Legacy mode in order to install Windows 7 (alone).

3. The utilities are directly from the VAIO support & download page.

I'm running an older machine with "standard" BIOS so I'm kinda out of my comfort zone with UEFI and Windows 8. Just a guess on my part but I'm wondering if there isn't something blocking the download of those utilitiesor if there's a compatibility issue. I noticed that the Hotkey download for Windows 7 64-bit is about 172MB while the Windows 8 download is only 113MB. IMO that's a sizeable difference and could be indicative of some kind of incompatibility between a machine originally built to run 7 vs. one built to run 8. As I said, totally a wild guess on my part.
