SSD and HDD Question

Looking to get a new computer, seen one that I'm interested in, and it's cheaper if I only get a 256 SSD. Was thinking if I get just that and I have a 1tb hdd out of my old computer I could wipe that clean. How would I install that and get it to work along side the SSD? For example the OS would run solely on the SSD but programs, pictures, documents, user accounts & etc. would auto store on the HDD.

This is only an option I'm considering and want to know exactly how I can do it so when I do go that route I can revert back to this discussion.

The new computer more than likely will have Windows 8.1

I'm sure someone will have a great way to achieve your goal,
I would keep programs on the same drive as the os,
Personal files on the hdd,

Is 256 big enough to have the OS and programs all on the SSD?

Yea I would imagine,
How many program do you have in mind ?
Games are a different matter
I've had my machine for almost 6 years and barely using 60 gig's :/

Yes I have a lot of games and that is the basis of me buying this computer.

The entire sims 2 collection
Secondlife
Everquest
Everquest next and landmark
Sims 3 and 4
Runes of magic
Etc etc. any upcoming games I like to try in the future.

But that's why I decided to just reuse my 1tb hdd if possible. I just want to know how to setup to work in conjunction with the ssd even if I don't ever use the space initially I want it for backup and yes if I download music and personal files and pictures.

Ha yea you said programs not games at first,
A clear description is now posted possibly this will help others with a solution,
I here programs I think of Business stuff not play stuff
