SSD / Backup - recovery

Hi Stereo, I have a Gigabyte board and the system drive, SSD or HDD has to be on SATA port 0-3 and all CD/DVD must be on SATA 4-5 with IDE enabled. You might try that. Ports 0-3 should be set to AHCI.

Do this and then do a clean reinstall which will put the registry back to normal. After install go into regedit and enable AHCI in Windows as essenbe referenced before.

Thanks, i'll see. To be honest, i do not want to re-install, it takes 7-8 hours to configure / optimize / install everything i need / the way i want
I installed 10 minutes ago, Macrium Reflect. I made the boot recovery CD, i created a backup image.
I recovered this image, still under AHCI, and it runs perfect. No errors, nothing.
Maybe Acronis True Image Home 2010 is the problem ?

Acronis may be the problem, Macrium is usually the recommended image tool here on SF.
don't try to edit the registry to get rid of an icon, there are delete or hide options which are better and cause no problems.

Ok, but Acronis has a nice function which is very important for me ( i test a lot of programs ) and i'm talkin' about Try and Decide.
I wish i could find a similar program with Try and Decide.
LE : I created another backup image with Acronis, AHCI - and recovered.
No problem at boot, nothing.
I think i know what's the problem with the first Acronis image i created.
When i pressed the button " create image " there is 2 % / 45 % / 68 % etc
I pressed "finished" and it was still 99 %
That's the only explanation

I re-installed Windows.
This time - no more registry settings. I leave the hotswap icon ...
After i install only the drivers, i make a backup, just in case.

No registry settings, anymore. I created a new backup image. Recovered. No problems, at all.
Do you think, because of those registry settings ( hotswap icon) i got today so many problems ?
LE : I recovered again the same image, just to make sure it's everything well
And, yes. It is.
No more problems
I wish i could get ride of the hotswap icon, but it seems to be impossible.

Yes, the registry changes caused you problems. Turning off system restore made it to where you could not go back and recover and the hot swap icon is one of the things ahci does. And quit restoring images, that is too many writes to an SSD in a short period. It can hurt performance.

I didn't know that. But i work with Acronis often
If i restore the backup image once a week, would that be bad ?

Very bad. Why would you need to restore an image weekly?
They are for when your system is not usable, not normal maintenance. Again that will degrade your new SSD very fast.
As essenbe said, turn on system restore, most of the time this is all you will need until your drive crashes and THEN you can use your image to restore a new drive.

I never used System Restore
Do i have to turn on only for C partition ?
And after that ? Please tell me what / how to proceed.
Please tell me about Prefetch !! Should be disabled or not ?

The AS SSD looks fine. Leave Super Fetch and Prefetch running. This enables faster program starts and other system features. Enable system Restore for all partition on which you have data you want to keep and the Operating system.

I enabled AHCI before install.
What about firmware ?

" Reset to Factory Spec (erase) to restore performance This step is necessary IF you have been using the SSD for a while before updating the firmware and/or want to return performance back to factory fresh (this will fix isues created if you ran 'tony-trim' method on another site). I did it right after the firmware update since it will ERASE the entire SSD, losing all data. It is called an ATA secure erase for a reason.
some of the firmware update tools do not issue the proper ATA secure erase command when they are done (Like the samsung), so the SSD will 'inherit' any performance issues it had before. Using this method resets all the memory cells to factory values "

I did a "die check" after i was adviced by someone.

The person who adviced me, said, after he saw the image :
" it should be possible to replace the drive with a 32GBit one. Contact the support or the staff of this forum.

In short, your SSD has fewer Flash "ICs" and is not able to divide the write command to as many Flash ICs as 32GBit device and this make the device slower"
Please tell me what to do.

Which is the better / real tool for benchmark ?

ATTO uses compressible data and shows a "best case" scenario.
AS-SSD uses incompressible data and shows "worst" or the slowest speeds.
