Hi guys,

i hope you can help me or at least point me in the right direction
i recently bought a budget tower system
gigabyte f2a68hm-hd2
with amd a8 6600 chip
240w psu
and installed win7 onto it
and all was fine, pc was stable but then
win update found over 200 updates and tried to install them all at once
this failed a number of times and upon shut down it said it was reversing the update
and since then my pc has BSOD a couple of times
after the most recent one the pc will now not start and keeps booting into repair mode

when i try to restore i get an error about referenced memory not being able to be read

it's restarted 12 times now and is telling me that windows cannot repair the computer automatically.

should i just reinstall windows? i'd lose 2 weeks of games downloads from steam :(

is there anyway of limiting the number of updates that windows will try to install at once?

thanks
paul

reinstalled win7 and on the initial restart it BSOD
so i reinstalled again, this time it worked
i now have win7 back on
but still need to let win7 upgrade and it is this that caused the original problems
mainly the 200 odd upgrades after sp1
anyone got any tips for making this a smooth process

well sp1 went on ok, i limited the number of updates it then tried to install and it did 27 but when it restarted it i had no usb so i used the keyboard to restart and back to BSOD, i managed to get into safe mode and tried to run sfc /scannow but it kept failing at different %
gonna try another install

Are you using WIn7 installation Media with SP1 onboard? Is it starting up ready to connect to internet or do you need to install Network driver?

Try installing the drivers queued under Important and Optional Updates first. What drivers are then missing in Device Manager?

well since most of the bsod seem to point to memory errors i decided to put the ram stick into the other socket
I now have a fully working win7 machine, fully updated and ready for action
reseating the ram stick might have worked rather than swopping the socket
but after 2 weeks of frustration I'm happy, fingers crossed
