Synaptics Touchpad

yes, yes, and yes
Everything appears as it should regarding your installation of the driver, kyzersoze.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I really apologize for having you chase the rabbit down the erroneous startupreg hole. :o

I hate to say it, but you might be looking at a repair install based on your bout with malware coupled with this issue.

The only other thing I could suggest would be to do another "clean boot" with everything unchecked except the touch pad start-up in msconfig and see if it works. If it does, enable each one until it breaks again.

Hey. I had the same issue. I disabled most programs in MSCONFIG, and, when I enabled some of them again, Synaptics Touch Pad did not function correctly. Mainly because it did not start up with the system any more.

I was too lazy to uninstall/re-install, so what I did instead was:

1. Created a Mouse Property short cut, which takes me directly to my Synaptics mouse window. On information on how to do so, visit http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/143549-mouse-properties-shortcuts-create.html. Side note: I must say, this forum is quite useful. :D

2. Make the short cut open every time Windows starts. This link will give you information on how to do that for Windows Vista/7. Run a program automatically when Windows starts.
I preferred to just copy the short cut, and paste it in "Start > All Programs > Startup".

Now, every time Windows will start, the mouse short cut will open, and cause the Synaptics' scrolling function to work correctly. All you have to do is just close the window by pressing the little x in the corner.

Hope that helped. :geek:

I had exactly the same issue and after changing SynAsusAcpi and SynTPEnh in regedit it worked. But kyzersoze, may be you did the same mistake I did at first, you should add a " " in the middle of "ProgramFiles". It must be "C:\Program Files\..."

The location in regedit that I mention: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"

Thanks

I know this thread is over 2 years old but it was the only answer for my Synaptics touchpad problem that worked and I wanted to say thank you. After a messy shut down months ago, SynTPEnh wouldn't start when I booted up - I had to manually start it every day, what a pain. I tried making a started task - didn't work. I tried redefining the environmental variable %programfiles% - didn't work. Finally I took a chance and edited the registry key you mentioned and it worked! I changed %programfiles%\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe to "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe" (quotes included) under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run.
