Taskbar - Pin a Program

Hi guys.

I had my Windows 7 32bit for many years and its been operating pretty good with a few annoying things.

A couple of years ago I did a rebuild because of annoying problems. I sorted all my likings out.

Last weekend I did another rebuilt because of other problems have been occurring (which I would have to make a new thread out if anyone is interested). This time I looked at all my settings and made a note in a text file.

I set everything up again as I like it but the is one thing I can't find a solution for. The Taskbar has IE11 pinned by default. I always work on files in Windows Explorer. So I have my own custom short-cut on the desktop.

You right-click on the short-cut and Pin to Taskbar, which works. Before I rebuilt I had the Windows Explorer pinned which open a new Windows Explorer on the Taskbar leaving the existing one still there. Now when I click Windows Explorer it opens in the same pinned short-cut.

I've searched this forum and there is

Taskbar - Pin or Unpin a Program

A good tutorial from Brink. He only says about pinning extra Taskbar short-cuts in the Start button. Yes that works but I want the Taskbar short-cut to open a separate item not in the same short-cut as it used to do. I know you can right-click on the pinned item and select another Windows Explorer but you should have to do this every time.

The other thing about the Start button. The Taskbar properties shows:

Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu - which I leave unticked.

To me I don't want every app I run to be listed in the Start menu. I know where the short-cut is so why have a reminder in the Start menu.

There are other slight problems with Device Manger Sound which I've sorted but again that's another new thread.

Any solutions would be appreciated.

hi on my computer at work I have bunch of shortcuts to window explorer on taskbar. all you have to do is pin each one to the taskbar and when done next time you want one of them just right click on windows explorer and choose what shortcut you want and it should open in another window.

Quick Launch

You right-click on the short-cut and Pin to Taskbar, which works. Before I rebuilt I had the Windows Explorer pinned which open a new Windows Explorer on the Taskbar leaving the existing one still there.
The behaviour you're describing sounds like "Quick Launch".

Are you sure that you weren't using "Quick Launch" on your previous installs?

I don't use Quick Launch. When I install apps sometimes there is an option Add to Quick Launch I never tick it. I if forget it shows in a separate arrow I just remove it.

In Task bar properties there is no option to use Quick Launch. If I search for Quick Launch in Windows help nothing useful shows.

Quick Launch - Enable or Disable

I don't see Quick Launch in my Libraries. In Windows Explorer I set Folder Options to see all files and Folders even hidden ones. Now it doesn't show ProgramData folder where the Roaming is.

Thank you for the reply. ;)
