Traditionally, today is the one and only day of the year I do my utmost to stay as far from Angie as possible She's running between two kitchens, ours and her mother's, to prepare everything.

I just love my wife! After lunch she "pushed" me to my study, brought me a thermos bottle filled with coffee, a nice "four fingers" of whisky, two newspapers and asked politely me to stay out of sight No dinner together today, I ordered a pizza, asking them to bring it straight to back door. Sitting here, watching an old Fritz Lang movie, surfing, drinking, smoking a cigar or two, enjoying the good smells coming from kitchen and filling the whole house.

Happy Birthday, JC! Merry Christmas to all of you geeks.

Life is good. Angie is beautiful. Mac OSX sux!

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses I do not celebrate Christmas, but we do treat it as a holiday and enjoy the time off.

I notice that the older I am, the more I miss my native Finland. Christmas time especially, all the things and traditions, like going to midnight Christmas sauna and then "swim" in snow, or my mother's traditional Finnish Christmas dinner. I love my German family and my home is here with my Angie, but Christmas here and its customs and traditions are so different I really miss Finland.

This year we had planned to be Christmas and New Year in Finland by my family but the strokes made it impossible. New Year in Baltic Sea has already been a tradition, followed by a short visit by my mom and brothers and sisters, but this year we had planned to travel already before Christmas. The plan was to drive to southern Baltic Sea port of Rostock and cross the sea with a cargo ship, it takes 40 hours. My mother-in-law can no longer fly and we couldn't even think to leave her here alone, so car holiday with her was the only option. Nothing against, we both love sea and seafare. Here some pictures how it can be when crossing Baltic Sea in winter time.

To compensate my homesickness I watch more Finnish television than I normally do. Today I watched the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation's (local PBS) traditional Christmas video showing how Santa Claus started his journey to bring presents to all children all over the world. This Christmas greetings video is yearly shown live in almost 100 countries, from Australia to Iceland.

Here's a short extract of this years "live news", as Santa Claus started his trip today to be able to deliver presents to all kids. This years video has greater than normal interest for me, for it's filmed in where I'm coming from, in my home county:



With this video I wish all my dear fellow geeks a happy Christmas.
