Recover Deleted Files

I ended up deleting all the files from the external drive recycle bin to assist me in not getting the message again.

I accidently pressed "Yes" - so there is no going back now.

You must be very sure when you decide to empty your re-cycle bin, 'cos that's when they're gone forever.
Ian.

You can attempt to recover deleted files. :geek:

There are various (free) programs that will attempt to recover them for you.
For example, Recuva
Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

You should stop using the drive so that the old files aren't overwritten by new ones.
You will also need to recover the items to a different drive/partition.

Be aware that you may not get all of the deleted files back. :(

Note:

I don't know if you can recover deleted files from USB sticks or SSDs.

BTW, I wasn't aware that you have a recycle bin on an ext HDD.....when I delete files from the ext HDD (drive F) or any of the drives they go to the recycle bin on my computer.......that is when you can re-evaluate your decision to delete and recover them later.

Each:

  • Drive/partition has its own Recycle Bin.
  • User has their own area in the Recycle Bin
For convenience they are all linked to the single icon (kind of like how the Libraries work).

You can prove this by:

  • Deleting a file on an external drive
  • Checking the Recycle Bin (to confirm it is present)
  • Disconnecting the external drive
  • The deleted file should not appear in your Recycle Bin
  • When you reconnect the drive, the file should appear in your Recycle Bin again

Thank you very much for this extra information.

I was very confused. I ended up trying to retrieve the data from my recycle bin - most of it contained temp files and I ended up getting very confused and there was quite a lot of folders that had the same name - in the case of this-
- I opted to select the merge the duplicate folders - but a few I ended up with FOLDER NAME (2)

It took 45 minutes and 12,000 restored files. I am very, very confused on what happened. It looks like the change in permissions originally done by me made the recycle bin corrupt, hence making the error message constantly coming up.
The files that were originally in the $RECYCLEBIN have now disappeared and is still present.

I have learnt my lesson not to restore all files as you can also gain errors in merging already present files.

I thank you for the above note - I will troubleshoot the above tips - that is the best advice that I have been provided for a while.
