Update your Win 7 installation media

did you try the ps2 port?

Does the media you made earlier in the year containing the 5.05 usb3 drivers or is it more recent with the usb3 stack

You could check how this functions 17514x64v24.iso

I'm upgrading my desktop with a new Samsung NVME 970 EVO Plus in the M2 port (Motherboard: Asus Ranger VII Maximus, Core I5 4690K, Corsair Vengeance) I have installed all the relevant drivers and changed the bios settings and the drive now shows in diskmgmt.

I initially wanted to clone my current windows 7 over to the new drive but I couldn't clone from a MBR disk to a GPT, which is required for NVME. It simply won't show up as a boot option and I assume this is why.

So I settled for a fresh installation of windows 7 using SIW2 tools. However, when I get to the tools, my mouse and keyboard turn off and I can't do anything. I tried different slots, different keyboards but none work.

Edit: I also changed the "secure boot" and various other USB settings in the Bios, but still wouldn't work.

Any idea what's the cause?

Thanks in advance.

Just thought I would put a solution up for my own post after many hours of failed attempts to upgrade my old 120gb ssd to a new 500gb NVME.

In the end it only took 30mins for the whole process

I was playing around with "Samsung Magician" software, which gives you speed, health, temperature and other info about your drives. I noticed there was a microsoft NVME driver installed so downloaded the official samsung driver and installed this instead. I also had to update the bios as the old version did not have NVME drivers for the M2 port.

I then switched over to UEFI boot and set the pcie2 slot to M2 only. I then used Clonezilla to do a direct clone of the old SSD to the new NVME. Clonezilla, annoyingly, automatically changes the partition table from GPT to MBR but it didn't matter! Windows booted from the NVME perfectly and is very very fast.

Dare I say that I think Windows 7 makes better use of NVME drives than Windows 10? (This is the only forum you can get away with saying this :p)

So the issue was not a Windows 7 or GPT/MBR problem it was a BIOS and SSD driver problem.

yes, it is possible to boot under efi using mbr if there is a fat32 partition with the boot critical files.

If you want to integrate your own drivers, please put them in the relevant folder beforehand.

for 64bit use the DRIVERS\Bootx64 and DRIVERS\Installx64 folders.

for 32bit use the DRIVERS\Bootx86 and DRIVERS\Installx86 folders.

You can also add language packs in the LANGPACKS folder

OPTIONAL ADD ONS. STRONGLY Recommend you include net framework 4.8 add on

If you want to include Net Framework 4.8 or vc runtimes or directx
Place the .WA files in the C:\7UPv50 folder and the Simplix updatepack7R2.exe will integrate them for you:

net-framework-48-for-windows-7
vc runtimes
Directx

There are some drivers already included in the 7updater. It tells you that on the first post

Includes "universal" usb3 , standard oem nvme drivers and MS nvme updates
It also includes a selection of sata drivers.

That is fine for most machines. Probably be fine for yours.

If you want to add some extra drivers, you put them where indicated.

I understood the drivers section but not where indicated as there is no DRIVERS folder. Can I get the exact path please or do I have to create the folders to include my own drivers?

I downloaded

7UPv54.zip
SiMPLiX UpdatePack7R2-20.12.10 .exe
net-framework-48-for-windows-7
Directx
7UPDRIVERS.7z

And followed the steps. When I boot the CD-ROM, I see Windows 7 Ultimate starting and the logo then it freezes. I have a 9th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9 9 900 processor and trying to install on a Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 500GB. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, I was able to install Windows 7 on my new PC.. The next test will be of the weekend when I get a PCI card. If PCI card and environmental control work. That would be one of the best things that has happened to me in sometime. I have been working on an older Windows 7 machine and its worn-out.

Anyhow, thanks for your hard work. I would like to give a donation for your time or to a charity of your choice or I know of one. I'm just praying the PCI card doesn't have issues were my PC freezes every hour.

I hoped to install win7 next to the win10 and, after I can safely conclude all software I got works well, get rid of this horrible win10. For my internet I use Linux, so security on win7 is no problem anyway as it will be after installing and eventually downloading stuff, disconnected from the net.

I have tried using the tool, it now gets a bit further in the process, but in the end still keeps looking for drivers. When I point at the samsung folder it won't recognize it as the right drivers so I must either be doing something wrong, or this system can't be installed to for another reason. I bought this machine with win 10 pre installed. I tried before with the win7 DVD disk and got into errors and blue screens, so that is how I ended up here. I thought this 7UP tool would safe my day, but so far no good results. I also tried installing the UpdatePack7R2-20.12.10.exe as well, did not help either. It now does recognize the disk, but seems to be not happy with a driver or the lack of it, but I can't see which one it needs. What can I do and what should I provide as info to get help here?

Some specs:

Graphics: GeForce RTX 2070 max
Processor: Intel Core i7-10875H
Storage: Nvme Samsung 980 pro SSD

Will this work for an i7 10700K and Strix Z490-E Gaming? I downloaded a Win7 ISO with slipped in NVME and USB3 drivers and I was able to use my mouse and keyboard during installation, however when it got to the point where I needed to use my Keyboard to name my account they both stopped working and I can go no further.

7UPv56 on first post. UpdatePack7R2-21.1.15.exe. Small changes to script due to changed switches in simplix. Usb3 changed boot flags and sha2 signed. Sha2 updates now included for boot.wim both bit versions. It is larger.

Still no reply , so let me ask another question. Would it work easier if I add a SATA based M2 disk? Eventually from there add a functioning nvme driver and move win7 to the nvme disk afterwards and make the sata my data disk? Really struggling with this, my last built was in the beginning of win7, so lots of new development I know not much about as well as my first laptop ever. Help would be highly appreciated...
