I hope this is in the correct section.

As the title says, my Compro Videomate e300 works when i install the drivers. As soon as i reboot, both Compro DTV and Media Centre cannot find channels.
I am using the latest 6.01.080 driver and DTV 4.53.600 and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (i just installed it 2 days ago, so the installation is clean)

If i uninstall the driver from Programs and Features, then delete the device from the Device Manager, reboot then install the driver. It works perfectly. However if i reboot my pc, it stops working again.

I previously had Windows Xp Sp3 and the card worked perfectly.

There was no strange error message, it was just as though i unplugged the cable from the tv card. None of the software could find any channels, even the FM radio couldnt pick up anything.

Please help me. Thank you

I suspect the drivers you are using are not signed. Signed drivers are a requirement for x64 versions of W7 (and Vista). While you can force drivers to load while in user mode, on boot, unsigned drivers are removed. Contact the manfacturer and ask for signed drivers for W7 x64.

The drivers are actually signed and certified according to the manufacturer.
I also checked once its installed, and it does say its certified.

Then all I can think of is that they were installed on a non-admin account or at least without sufficient priveledges?

Nope, my main user account is set as the computer administrator. UAC is also turned off.
I dont have any problems like this with any other driver or software.

I think the driver installation possibly doesnt register some dll or inf properly, either that or the TV card goes on sleep mode and doesnt wake up until driver installation.

Update:

I've tried running the driver install as an administrator, no change.
There is also no IRQ conflicts

It cannot be a hardware fault as it worked perfectly on Windows XP, and it works on Windows 7 if i dont reboot.

Could someone help me with the registry, i have screenshots of all instances of the driver reference in the registry.

JunaidZA,

Was your previous installtion of XP the 32 bit version? Few ran XP 64 bit, this is an important distinction.

A) Windows 7 x64 will allow non-signed drivers to be installed while running (with warning), but will not boot unsigned drivers.
B) Review the services that your setup requires and make sure they are set to automatic, not manual.
C) What language pack are you using and is your TV software fully compatible with it?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes i had Windows Xp sp3 32 bit.

A) According to the manufacturers (compro) the drivers are signed and certified for 64bit windows 7. If it wasnt certified, it would display the warning during installation, but it doesnt display any warning.

B) The services that are running look fine, i didn't disable any services since installed windows.

C) I am not using any language pack, using the default english.

I just ran a program called autoruns which lists the drivers that are automatically loaded, and the card driver is listed as installed and loaded. There are 2 files listed though, one is the actual driver (VMTVE88x64.sys), the other is the Compro HID Device (ComproHID64.sys).

I have disabled UAC, but i also re-enabled it to test if that was the problem

I uninstalled everything, enabled UAC to the highest level, restarted, installed driver, restarted. No luck.

I did receive the prompt when it was set on the highest level. Also tried running the driver installation as an administrator (even though my user account is a computer administrator)

Why is DirectX Video Acceleration off?

I also thought that was strange but apparently its normal for their software to report that. It was the same when it was working on windows xp.

What prompt did you receive? Providing a screenshot would be helpful.

I received the normal prompt UAC spits out whenever a program tries to get elevated privileges. The one where the background fades away and UAC asks whether you are sure you want to continue or cancel. I can provide a screenshot when i get home from work.

I was concerned with the warning that notes the drivers being installed are not signed - it's often overlooked - all UAC prompts should be carefully reviewed.

Oh, no i dont get that warning. Only the standard warning you get when trying to run a unidentified program.

When i go to the driver properties in device manager, it says the device drivers are signed by Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher.
