W7 not updating?

Hi there!

Excellent work, simply awesome.

Why didn't you suggest this earlier, or was working on it........

Did as before, installed the 3, last one took a while, total in size was approx 1.7 GB.

Than activated online and ran check for updates, displays approx 40 vs 172 important and 30 odd optional, attaching for your expert thoughts.

Should I install the Important in one go......and thoughts about Optional ones?

Thanks again, hoping to hear your expert views after viewing the attachments.

Edit:

1. In Optional the ones for W10 should be excluded and the rest installed.......already did install the Nvidia etc ones?

2. Net framework 4.5.2 should be installed from here, or from the standalone installer?

3. Should 40 Important be installed before net framework?

Hi,

Installed all Important 41 in one go, only 2 failed, on reboot they got installed successfully.

Now on check for updates, get an error.

Hi,

It was a MS server issue, error disappeared, 6 new important updates appeared that got installed in 1 go with none failed.

Now have none Imp, only Optional 29.....leaving the 10 ones, in which order would you recommend........4.5.2 from here or from a MS link?

Interesting it shows both net frameworks there
It should only show net 4.6.1 which I've just installed on all my machines so if you want go ahead and install it it's been out for a while now and should be fine to have

I had a home group sharing issue my Acer could see and access my other 2 machine but neither of my other machines could see my Acer
So I sort of threw the kitchen sink at it
But anyway net 4.6.1 should be fine but after the Important ones

You mean it shouldn't show 4.5.2 ONLY 4.6.1, you had 4.5.2 inserted in the update?

Which would you recommend?

IF I install 4.5.2 can I later go to 4.6.1 and vice versa?

Yes
If you want to install net 4.5.2 and you already have net 4.6.1 installed you have to go to uninstall a program and uninstall net 4.6.1 first before you can install net 4.5.2

If you have net 4.5.2 you can install net 4.6.1 through the windows update system at any time.

I'd just go ahead and install net 4.6.1 so we're on the same page still

A query: If one has 4.5.2 can install 4.6.1 over it simple, but 4.5.2 has its own important updates too, wouldn't they interfere or need to uninstalled?

Hi,
I just installed through the update system it's a good test

All security updates are part of net framework and are uninstalled when you uninstall it
Installing another net the same security updates will reappear so they would have to be installed to but the update system will bring them to you so there is nothing to manually do just wait for them or manually check for updates and they should all appear after the search completes.

Hi got 4.6.1 and it's 6 important updates installed. Now only have 27 optional left, shall leave out 10 ones and install the rest.

Till now only 2 failed.......that's awesome!

Installed optional W7 updates. In this one gets only 8 vs 18 10 updates.

Yea I have no idea what all comes up after doing the rollup
Good info I doubt micro... would re KB a update so the rest should be fine
Too many to manually search for to see what they are since you have Skype installed.

Some on my list were associated with Remote desktop stuff which is optional and I didn't need that feature so I passed not sure which ones 3-4 I believe.

I have only 15 updates left on my laptop but all are the same as my other screen shot that are left.

Hi,

After installing all important and required updates, have only 8 left in Windows Optional, vs 19 in the older install.

Havent installed Skype or MS Off yet.

Now plan installing utilities and than shall create a W7 backup before installing Off and its updates.

1. Why does the older method has 18 optional windows update vs 8?

2. Should I create a image now or after installing Off and its updates.

3. Would disabling Services improve the performance on my lap with only 4 gigs ram?

4. How come Silverlight got installed......strange.
