What is your opinion?

I've been thinking of getting a new graphic card, To be more precise a Radeon HD6950, Still I'm still quite not sure if my PSU is really up to the challange.
As well as will the HD6950 be up to the task as well.

So what i've been thinking is swapping the 9800GT card for the HD6950 card and later on buy my self a new screen as well 24" 1920x1080 if you are intressted in which screen it is heres a link https://www.inet.se/artikel/2203094/lg-24-tft-w2453v-pf
And run the computer using 2 monitors the linked one above as the primary screen and my old screen 1440x990 as my 2nd screen.

So for those of you who wants to know what im playing on my comp will get a short list.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
World of Warcraft
Splinter Cell
Civilization 5
Crysis 1&2
Supreme Commander 2

I'd prefer to be able to push those games almost thru the roof
(I know that WoW will never be a challange but i just gave it to you since i do play it quite a lot and maybe there is some known bugs with a graph card you are about to recommend with that game)

Also would like to have a graphic card that will do alright in the next few years. (and what alright is up to you to decide)

So lets sum it up.
1) Will my 620W PSU manage my setup?
2) Will the new graphic card be able to handle 2 screens? (1920x1080 & 1440x990)
3) How would the grapic card preform using 2 screens playing and of the newer games like Crysis 2?

PS. I've been thinkin of BIOS edit the HD6950 as soon as the waranty is over to the 6970 version which i've seen has been done. Also would appriciate feed back on this, Is this easily done and Is it easy to get it wrong?

I need specific information on your psu. (will look it up after I post)
It'll be close but I need to know the amps/volts/rail for it.
If it has strong amps I think it can handle it.

Edit: it appears to be a damn well made psu even though it's wattage isn't over the top.
Not a chance in hell of supporting 2 6950's solidly but I think you can get away with one without any worries at all.

at the end of the day the power consumption on the 6950 isn't much off of what your current card needs.

I agree with Maguscreed on everything he said. As far as the BIOS flash to a 6970, from everything I have read, it has to be a refrence card and is also dangerous.

Been thinkin of gettin just 1 but then im curious how games and such will actually run which is really importent to me.
You might ask why im thinkin of just gettin one card, It's simply becous graphics cards ain't cheap.

I have a 5850... no complaints , running at 1080p.
The only thing that stutters it is crysis 2 with the dx11 cranking.

And the card you are looking at is a noticeable improvement over this one.

As for detail on the killing the card


even if you do everything perfectly right, there is a chance of killing the card with the bios flash.
If you brick the card that way, warranty is void.

even if you are clever and manage to get the original bios back on there, they will know when they test it.

How is Crysis 1 running then and if you plug in another monitor i've got a feelin that the primary monitor will suffer quite hard for that.

probably , I don't run multiple monitors on my gaming rig for that specific reason though. I have a task machine in the other room for the multitasking jobs. It has 3 monitors on it, but I don't use it for gaming... well I may idle tf2 to get items on it... that's about the limit though.

Crysis 1 ran great on it.
I have the audio glitch problem on my machine with crysis 1 though.
Hell my 8800gtx's could handle crysis 1.
To give some relative information.
the 5850 in addition to supporting dx11 which the 8800's didn't, is such a drastic improvement in both frame rate and render quality that I can barely begin to quantify it. Mind you this is in comparison to two 8800gtx's in sli.

The card you are looking at is nearly that much improvement again.
Of course nvidia fans will probably tell you to look at a 560, so I suppose I should mention it as an alternative.
I've seen benchmarks/reviews going both ways on which is actually better.

Looking at a Preformance test of Crysis 2 at Extreme

Benchmarks: Extreme Performance

Using the extreme quality preset at 1680x1050 shows that Crysis 2 is every bit as demanding as the original. At this relatively low resolution, the GeForce GTX 580 barely cracked the 60fps barrier with an average of 64fps. The Radeon HD 6970 on the other hand averaged 49fps while the dual-GPU Radeon HD 6990 was just a fraction faster averaging 56fps.
The dual-GPU GeForce GTX 590 sailed along without any problems averaging 95fps, proving that SLI is working fine. We found that the single-player portion of the game requires an average of at least 40fps for smooth playable performance. Most of the graphics cards tested will provide satisfactory performance at 1680x1050.
However for perfectly smooth gameplay 50fps+ on average is warranted, which means you will need a very high-end graphics card.

Increasing the resolution to 1920x1200 pushed most cards below an average of 50fps, leaving just the GeForce GTX 580 and GTX 590 with ideal frame rates. The GeForce GTX 560 Ti averaged 40fps while the Radeon HD 6970 was only a fraction faster with 42fps and the GTX 570 jumped up another notch to 44fps.

At the massive resolution of 2560x1600, only the GeForce GTX 590 could deliver playable performance as even the GTX 580 fell below an average of 40fps.

Maybe its beter to get an even higher preformance graphic card then 6950. Since i want to run dual screens and pref at max graphics

All those numbers are for the direct x 9 version too.
They've since added dx11 support for it.
Though for me it actually seems to run better in dx11.
