Win7 New Install And Disc Space Question

So I've installed Win7 Pro on my Mac via bootcamp. I've done this twice.

I don't plan on using it much other than to check things for web development for my job.

The first time I created the partition, I made it small as per the reason above. I set it to 32gb and after a fresh install without adding any extra programs, it took up about 28gb of space I believe.

I wasn't expecting it to take up that much room as I had done some research and talked to some friends, and had heard lower numbers.

I just deleted the partition and started over, this time allocating 50gb. The install this time took up ~36gb of space.

Is this normal? I've installed nothing else, and this is a fresh install. No system restore points or anything.

Hi
KenSander and welcome to SF!
Windows 7 requires between 16GB and 20GB of free space on HDD only for its deployment, depending on your architecture (32bit / 64bit). In fact, the values that you report are abnormal. Did you use Boot Camp 3.1 in the installation process ?!
Let us know!

ps. Here is a good tutorial: http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-to-install-windows-7-on-an-imac/

I did a fresh install both times, nothing custom other than doing it via bootcamp.

I forgot to mention it is 64bit.

I did run it through bootcamp with a fresh format each time. I don't see a windows.old folder. I even ran disc cleanup/clean system files command right after installing, and it only had 3mb to remove.

I did notice on MS' website it said it required 20gb with an additional 15gb for winxp mode. I didn't specifically install winxp mode, just ran the win7 install disc and it was all automatic. I assume it is all built into the install by default.

The thing that is puzzling, is that when it installed on a smaller partition, it took up 28gb, and when I redid it on a larger partition, it took up 36gb.

Would be about 20GB for the 64bit version. And what do you say to try the tutorial that I recommended above?! Redo the installation process for it, and let us know the results!
