Solved Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine - help please

I have run all the requested scans.
Possibly why you have not asked for these before is because I have already run all of these scans prior to posting this problem. In my first thread I listed the results.

NOW RESTORED: KB971033 update

CHKDSK C: /R: No errors reported

SFC /SCANNOW: Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

It looks like you either didn't share the file, or didn't put it into your Public folder - I can't access it.

It looks to me as if the problem has to be registry-related - and that's a massive database to search through to find what may simply be a single missing or malformed entry.

Your problem is defined by three entries in the report.

Cached Online Validation Code: N/A, hr = 0xc0000022

On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x80070426' to display the error text.
Error: 0x80070426

HealthStatus: 0x0001000000000000

This particular problem is on that I've only recently started to get to grips with, and if the third error were a different one, we'd have solved it by now. At the moment I have no idea where to look for a solution, so I'm groping in the dark.

You have two choices.
1) A repair install, which should fix it - but no guarantees!
2) Persist with more hunt-and-peck troubleshooting here in the hope that I can find the source of the problem.

It's up to you - I'm happy either way.

Lovely :)
This error only started cropping up last week, so far as I can tell/remember, although it's a variant on one that I solved a few weeks ago, it's proving a lot more resistant to troubleshooting :(

I need to play a little - back later (if you haven't heard form me by teatime, shout!)

OK - a little research as background -

Searching for HealthStatus: 0x0001000000000000 errors
of 164000+ messages in my archive for teh MS Answers forums (now MS Community), there are 22 posts with this problem, in 15 threads :(
3 of those threads have been in the past week - the latest one prior is dated March, when the rest of the occurences appeared.
At least two cases have involved Norton software.

None have been solved short of a repair install.

In the specialist MS WGA forum:
56 posts, in 23 threads - not all also have your other errors

One user reported that BioShock was involved in the error
..... one was fixed by re-writing the SPPSVC Key! (had 0x80070003 error though - April))

Since the C0000022 error is a permissions one, it may be a good idea to check that first, and see if that changes the error messages.

Please open Regedit
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services branch
right-click on the sppsvc entry in the left pane - select Permissions

There should be four entries in the Security box
CREATOR OWNER
SYSTEM
Administrators
Users

SYSTEM and Administrators should have Full Control and Read permissions ticked
CREATOR OWNER should have 'Special permissions' ticked
Users should have Read permission ticked
(all should be greyed out)
Click on the Advanced button
Click on the Owner tab
The Current Owner should be Administrators (if not, what is it?)
DO NOT change anything at this time!
Close the window, and exit regedit
post your results.

OK let's make sure that teh same is true for the actual entries themselves then.
Please open Regedit
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services branch
right-click on the sppsvc entry in the left pane - select Permissions

Click on the Advanced button
Click on the Owners tab
put a tick in the 'Replace owner on sub...' box, and click Apply, then OK (once)
That should put you back in the main permissions box - now click on the Advanced button again.
In the Permissions tab, put a tick in the 'Replace all child....' box, and click Apply, and OK out - exit Regedit

reboot, and run another MGADIag report (I doubt it will be any different, but....)

That looks normal enough - although I have to admit I have no idea what the REG_BINARY values actually mean!

I need to do some more reseacrh - and I have an almost identical thread elsewehre to deal with :)

The other thread came to a succesful conclusion - much to my surprise!

Have you EVER had Avast installed as anti-virus?

even if not, please run their cleanup utility -

Download the Avast removal utility from here http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Follow the instructions for running it, and when complete, reboot the machine.

then visit www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and see what happens
then post a new MGADIag report.

No I have never had Avast installed but recently I installed the full version of AVG's anti virus. I used Windows 'uninstall a program' to remove AVG a couple of days ago but I have since found a few scattered files left-over that I have had to remove manually.
I remember now that I also ran AVG's registry cleaner and thinking back it was around that time that my problems started.
I have run the Avast's clean-up utility which only took seconds.
After running [FONT=&quot]www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate I was transferred to Microsoft's page to buy a 'Genuine Version of Windows 7'.
Here is my MGA.diag report:

You need to run the removal tool for AVG -

Download the AVG Remover from here
http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities
Follow the instructions for running it, and then reboot the machine (whether it asks for it or not, and whether the program rebooted already or not).

Again, run another MGADiag report afterwards

Did AVG create a registry backup for you? AVG tweaks and others cause borked systems. CCleaner is the only reg cleaner I would use.

I believe AVG did have a registry back-up. All I know was I was not happy with the way it 'took over' with scans-update which I could not stop without re-booting.

That's OK - it defaults to the standard folders (I hope!)

No change in the report :(

I need to do some more research - back tomorrow
