I accidently deleted the Desktop Clock Gadget with came with Windows 7 64-bit. My 'bin' has long since been emptied. I've gone to the 'gadget' website but each item (including the clock) generates a warning (when I click 'download') that the item is a third-party product and COULD "generate all kinds of mayhem". Therefore, I'm a bit scared to carry on with the download. Is there a way to restort the DESKTOP clock that came with W7? I'm using an OEM version and do not have the original disk.

Then turn on the clock.

In addition ,if you type gadgets in search, by the start button, and click on gadgets, you will see a nice collection of (safe clocks) that you can keep on your desktop.

Good luck.

Incidentally, you are very wise to exercise caution when you download from an unknown source.

Hi Richard
Thanks. I must not have made it clear that the clock I referred is not the taskbar clock which IS turned on in the control panel area you suggested.
The second suggestion brought up the gadget tray. Unfortunately, the clock ,which HAD been there (and on my desktop) is the very one I accidently deleted. That's the one I'd like to recover

Bring up the gadget tray, again. You will see a clock. If you choose that one it will appear on your desktop. You will have the option to choose from several more at that point, by clickin on the little wrench that you will see, if you put your cursor on the clock.

I do not know of a way to change the selection of gadgets that are offered. I do not know how you could delte a clock from the gadget selection tray.

Keep me informed.

I was thinking you could merely download the 'official' MS clock gadget again but I can't seem to find it on the download site -- Odd:confused:

Thanks again Richard
Unfortunately I succeeded in doing the stupid thing. I wanted to temporarily remove the clock from my desktop and then restore it. I went to the gadget tray, right-clicked the clock and chose "uninstall" (that's how you do it!). Of course, it did what it said it would do and uninstalled the clock from my computer.
In the gadget tray clicking on "get more gadgets on line" and navigating to the general selection (hundreds) reveals, on page 3, item 7, a clock very similar to the one I lost. However, clicking on 'download' produces the WARNING which stopped me in my tracke.

Thanks also. I cannot locate the orininal MS clock either.

If you're downloading gadgets from the MS download center, you should be ok.

Ok Try this ....

In the start search bar type "Gadgets" without quotes

You should see an entry "restore gadgets shipped with windows" or similar

Select this and the original items should be restored, including the clock :D

Items you have added should not be affected

Sorry Nigel/Barman
There's no "restore" reference of any kind in the Desktop Gadget Gallery' (to give it it's proper name) which opens when one types Gallery in the Search box.
Methinks, I'll chance downloading the clock I referred to earlier and risk the warning list will not happen. Since the downloads are accessed from the Gallery, I'll assume they're OK
I'll let ye know
John:rolleyes:

YAHOO BARMAN!!!!!
I should have paid more attention to your answer.
Before downloading from the web I tried typing GADGETS once again and found the RESTORE listed under Desktop Gallery Gadgets along with a lot of other useful facilities. I was just too quick to click on Gallery without taking the trouble to look at the listings. I've learned a good lesson today and would like to heartily thank you, and all those who responded. (Ill go back now and acknowledge your help in solving my problem)
Live long and prosper

Good work Jolan!

I remember when I used to delete the actual Recycle Bin in Vista(Was way too easy to do) Took me ages to figure out how to get it back. I'm glad 7 got rid of that delete option.

Good work Barman, and everyone else on contributing to the solution.

Clock problems

I also have problems with my OEM Gadget clock. I have restored it per Barman58's instructions. This worked to restore it. When I add it to the desktop, I get a square black box with two red hands pointing to Noon only. I don't have any way to change the face, or make the clock work.

Originally, I also deleted it unintentially. I also had a virus about that time, which Norton fixed.

I don't remember how I set the look of the clock when I purchased the notebook. It seems like I right-clicked on it, and set the parameters. All I get when I right-click is Add Gadgets/Move/Always on top/Opacity/Close Gadget. Any suggestions as to what to check? It seems strange that the clock isn't reading the system time...

Thanks in advance!

-Wes-

Richc46: The system clock is set for internet time. The gadget clock is the default clock in gadgets. When I right click on the clock, there is no option for changing the face. And the time still shows as 12 noon (or midnight...).

I did restore the gadgets per previous instructions. The clock shows up in the gadget window. I also went to Features, turned off the gadgets, rebooted, then turned the gadgets back on. Still have the same square black box with red hands that don't move....
