Windows 7 disk space decreasing extremely fast

1.After installing a skin pack from called simplfy,I used a restore point that i created before installing the skin pack ill call it restore point A.

2.i installed the skin pack again and then used system restore to restore to the same point (restore point A) without undoing the last restore which was restore point A.

3.Earlier this morning I tried to save a text file and it said disk space was low.I know that wasn't correct a text file shouldnt exceed 14.75gb.So I checked the disk and it said 0 kb free

4.Restarted Computer opened defraggler (I didnt do anything with defragler I only used it to look at the graph) and ccleaner (I ran the file cleaner and the registry cleaner which cleared only 299mb) and I noticed that the space was returning back to normal at about 150 mb/sec.

5.After about 6 hours the problem returned and now I'm posting this.

NOTE:A week before the issue came up I installed Rainmeter,I havent used my PC until today. So I dont know if its rainmeter causing the issue or using system restore.System restore is only using 3%.I had rainmeter installed a while ago and it never messed with my system so I doubt its rainmeter but its still a suspect. My AV is Comodo internet security

My max storage is 51 gb I should have 14.75gb of freespace.Any suggestions would be appreciated

Post a screenshot of Disk Management so we can see your partition layout.

I'd download and run WinDirStat which should give you a clue as to how space is actually being used.

When you ran Ccleaner, did you use the registry cleaning portion, or just the disk cleaner?

When did you last run virus scans or malware scans?

I have about 1.5 gb for system restore,my page file is about 2.4gb.I used the registry portion of ccleaner with the file cleaner. My last full scan was about a month ago my AV scans in realtime so any new file that is created is scanned so it would have alerted me if i had malware.I didnt defrag though i only had it open to see the disk space change.

Ill post the screen shot in a few mins of the top of my head its two partitions both 51 gb NTFS

My first idea would be to use WinDirStat.

Defrag shouldn't matter.

I wouldn't assume you are free of viruses and malware, but begin with WinDirStat.

What virus/malware apps do you use?

Running vssadmin from a command prompt can also reveal info about System Restore, but I'm not qualified to tell you how to use it. Other members who use it, such as WHS, can advise you on that.

The pic shows C drive as having no free space.

You need to confirm if that is true or bogus.

Run WinDirStat to find out the contents of C.

I had no problems with "Rainmeter" when I used it on the Windows 7 betas.
I forgot to save my custom config files, so I haven't run it since. :o

If you still have all of the files & installers, try uninstalling the theme pack and any new programs that you have added recently.

Additional
A point to remember for the future, a backup HDD image is better than a "System Restore Point".
You can use the built-in Windows tool or install a program like Macrium Reflect.

I just played with vssadmin a bit.

Go to an elevated command prompt and run this command:

vssadmin list shadowstorage

That will show the gigabytes actually used by System Restore.

It should show a number for used, allocated, and maximum.

What are those numbers in your case?

@lehnerus2000:Thanks I would make a backup image but I dont have enough space to do that

@ignatzatsonic:the numbers are 0,0,1.53gb.I ran wirdirstat tool but before I could actually install it the freespace was at 11gb again so I cant determine where the freespace is going since nothing stood out at that point Ill have to wait until it happens again.

Thanks you guys Ill post a reply to this topic when it happens again

Those numbers imply you have NO restore points.

If you manually go to System Restore, does it also show that you have no restore points?

I'd run WinDirStat now regardless---to see whatever it can tell you--rather than wait for free space to disappear. You may find something unusual right now.

Also consider running Malwarebytes malware scanner--a free download.

Have you recently run Checkdisk??

Okay its happening again Ill have a screenshot up shortly.I can confirm there are no restore point after I ran CCleaner it got rid of them.Ill run Checkdisk after the windirstat is finished scanning and Ill try out the malwarebytes.

I'm starting to think its my AV since Comodo usually acts strange after a system restore but if it is the issue it never acted this bad

Check storage allocation first

Those numbers imply you have NO restore points.

I've noticed that "System Restore" will let you "create System Restore Points", despite having no space allocated to store them!

I've done it.
There were no warnings issued (on my PC).

You have to make sure that you have allocated space, BEFORE making any "System Restore Points".

They were allocated before but ccleaner wiped them. But I found out where the space went theres a folder located in the appdata folder its something with a chrome extension i believe it ate up about 15 gbs so if im right i think they call this a memory leak? the last extension that auto updated was lastpass so that could be it

I will start off simple.
1. Fill in you system specs completely. It will help us help you.
2. Registry cleaners in my opinion should not be use unless one is very
experienced in such things.
3. Make sure you only have one anti virus and firewall active at the same time.
Remove all others completely.
4. Using Ccleaner under Tools will show you your restore points.
5. Check and remove all programs you don't use. You can use Windows 7 Add
and Remove, Ccleaner or Revo.
6. Go to our Tutorials and get Disk Clean Up Extended and do a disk clean up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This will get you started.
Note: Windows doesn't work well when less than 10% hard drive space is
recognized.
Get back to us with your results.

Thank you for this, thank all of you.It turns out there is nothing wrong with my computer or disks itself it's something with Chrome I'm going to re install it.I guessing the restore point did some sort of damage to chrome.I'll up date my sys specs. Thanks again guys.I'll let you know if anything happens

EDIT:I updated my sys specs. And after Deleting the folder and file within the IndexedDB folder my free space hasn't changed.I'll post an update on whether this problem is resolved since it's to soon to say it's fixed

If Chrome is causing the problem, perhaps you should consider swapping to FF9 or IE9.

I personally don't like those two browsers but thanks for the advice.I believe it's safe to say now that the problem is solved all I had to do was delete the folders within the IndexedDB folder and the file.

(C:\Users\"Your username"\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\IndexedDB)

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.Below is for anyone who has this issue in the future I can't stand when someone fixes an issue but doesn't post the solution.

Tools used: Windirstat (search it on google)-used to identify where all the free space was consumed
More info about deleting the IndexedDB (http://www.kristofdegrave.be/2011/11/indexed-db-deleting-your-database.html)thanks ReviverSoft for the link
