Hi,

My laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 sometimes randomly freezes (sometimes once a month, sometimes once a day). Not technically a Blue Screen of Death but this seems to be the right part of the forum for this. This happens in the following ways:

1. Audio stops coming from the laptop, several seconds later the screen freezes. Several seconds later the mouse pointer disappears and I have to restart by pressing the on/off button.

2. When my laptop screen is closed and when I open it the screen just stays black. No sound either. I have to restart by pressing the on/off button.

It doesn't happen very often so I haven't taken any action up until now but I'm afraid it will get worse. I found this thread on this forum which is about the same thing apart from the frequency and OS. I have attached the same files that were asked for in that thread.

Solved Random Freezing

Thanks in advance!

I've run into trouble at step 1. Ran the bootable disk overnight and in the morning it looks like this. Weird Matrix style characters appeared at the top of the screen. This can't be good right?

You can also install Crystal Disk Info to get a SMART read on HD condition which should be enough unless it shows Red. CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World Watch closely nothing extra is allowed to install with it

If indicated Use bootable Seatools to test your hard drive, or Partition Wizard Surface scan.

your processor and ram are very fine,,nice..no problem with that.
i see u use avast.change antivirus software run scan.
u also have graphics card..update the driver..
use ccleaner software to clean registiries and other junks.
update windows..

Crystal Disk Info says all is good. I tried bootable seatools again but the same weird characters appear. Maybe the disk I burned is no good.

I'm currently at step 11 of the troubleshooting tutorial and I'll get on Big guys advice later, just wanted to give a little update to show I'm still around.

What did you use to burn the disk? I would use Windows Image Burner which should be on the ISO's right click context menu, or Imgburn. Make sure you have fresh, new CD's.

My disc burning software is CDBurnerXP. But Crystaldisk does work and reports no errors so that's okay I think.

I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps and big guys advice. I haven't found any big errors though.

Does anyone have any other advice that may be useful?
