Hello everyone, i am new to the group, i just installed windows 7 on older system but a new gigabyte MB and a new Athlon dual core 2.8Ghz CPU.
windows installed flawlessly and has been up an running for a while now, except for the system stops responding (Freezes up) after a period of time. i can go for a day or two without a problem, and other times a few times a day, everything is updated (windows and drivers) but i cant seem to fix this issue. When the system stops responing i have to do a soft reboot to get the system up an running again, any ideas would be welcomed,
Thanks in advance.

Hello Pantz.

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Have you had a look in 'Event viewer' or 'Reliability monitor' to see if there are any hints as to what is causing the freeze.

it so happens that i did look at the "system" event viewer, here are a few from today, its the same every time the system stops responding. this is after the soft reboot.

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly" but i did not loose power when the system stoped responding

Those errors probably aren't significant to your problem.
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Save the report as an .nfo file
Zip it up and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

This system seems to have both an nVidia and an ATI graphics card installed. The ATI card is in an error condition (can't find enough resources) - which could explain your issues.

I'd suggest removing the ATI card from your system. If it's onboard (built in) then disable it in the computer's BIOS.

Please remove the ATI software, then physically remove the ATI card from the system.

Using Regedit, you can go to this key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and delete

Google Quick Search
Adobe Reader Speed Launcher
ISUSScheduler
SunJavaUpdateSched

I'd uninstall this:

c:\program files\google\googletoolbarnotifier\googletoolbarnotifier.exe

.....and also completely uninstall AVG.

Then you will have a system that does not freeze.

(You either have an NVIDIA or ATI addon card. The ATI one isn't working well, so just disable that in the motherboard bios if it's onboard and use the NVIDIA card.)
