I started a recovery process and followed the instructions and the next thing I knew I got this screen that told me my computer needed repair. A requir4ed device isn't connected or can't be aaccessed.,

The suggestion I found is to run a HD diagnostic. The HD maker should have diagnostic tools for download. You may have to boot from CD/DVD or USB to run it.

Problem is, I can't run anything. No mater what I do it just goes to that message. My unit is a Samsung which my daughter got as a gift. She never liked it and it's almost like brand new, only had it a year and used it very little. Anyhow, for some reason, computer companies don't sent the reinstallation tools anymore and you have to really beg them to do something for you that they won't charge you for. I did suceed in getting them to send me a reinstallation disc and hopefully that will correct the problem.

Usually there's a function key to press to set the boot order. On my Laptop it's F12. Then you can boot one of those rescue CDs like Hiren's or a WinPE disc/USB. If you copy the diagnostic program onto the USB you should be able to run it after booting. You may need someone else to burn the CD for you or create a boot USB.

If you don't have access to other people who can help then the reinstall may work if it's not a hardware problem. But I/O error implies it's having trouble reading the HD. That's why the diagnostic.

I'll give it a shot. I do have a reinstall for Windows 8 but it's for a Dell laptop
